What kind of direct ab work are you guys doing?

I've been doing the spread eagle situps with a dumbbell held behind my head and like it a lot. I also have an ab wheel. But I'm looking for more options because I want to keep rotating between different exercises, I get bored doing the same stuff too often.

I may try standing ab pulldowns and weighted Roman chair sit ups.

I have 2 additional ab workouts that got me toned up fairly quickly, (even though I'm skinny this gave me alot of extra weight when i did it and a defined stomach):

First off get yourself one of those 6lb medicine balls you can hold in your hands.

Once you purchase one of those:

1. SIT on the floor raise your legs up keeping your feet off the ground, now raise your back off the ground almost in a sitting position. While balancing on your butt take the ball with both hands grasping it and move the ball from side to side past your hip on the left and right. Do this slowly and keep your feet and shoulders up.

2. LAY back on the floor, raise your knees up untill your shins are parallel with the floor. raise your shoulder blades off the ground slightly. Now take the medicine ball and put it through your legs in a figure eight motion. this exercise will look like your high stepping in place on your back while you weave the medicine ball between your churning legs.

Both of these exercises are good for burnouts at the end of your normal routine. Do them until your ready to throw up. 2 to 3 weeks you'll notice a difference.

Reverse crunches to get more focus on the lower abs because i have an anterior pelvic tilt.

I do standing ab pulldowns too. I'm not really a fan of weighted situps. They bother my back, but i was doing 130 lbs on my chest when i stopped doing them. Yea it took me a bit to realize i should use a lighter weight behind my head :p

Now that i've actually looked up what russian twists are i'm definitely going to do some of those since i play softball.

I don't usually buy into info commericials but thought since this is a thread about abs has anyone here seen the Contour AB Belt commericial where you wear this belt that looks like a weigh lifting belt and they show the evidence of the areas it works verses what we do or I do regular to weighted crushes.

Anyway, I wonder if it's like all the rest just a bullsh*t device that doesn't work..

I usually start doing my lower abs first b/c they are the weakest of the ab groups, then i do my sides followed up with the upper abs:

Lower:
Decline sit-ups (4 sets till failure: 2 bodyweight, 2 holding weights)
Hanging Leg Lifts
Reverse Crunches

Obliques:
Russian Twists w/ Med. Ball
Side Crunches

Upper:
Ball sit-ups with weight
Cable Crunches (BEST ONE OF ALL!!)
Cable Crunches to opp. knees.

I vary the amount of sets and reps (hitting both fast & slowtich fibers) and substitute different exercises (never let your muscles get used to a workout!!).

8 minute abs

go to google search for 8 minute abs, pretty good workouts.

Some may think these are too easy so either double up or add some weights to your routine.

I know this is old but I have started doing Roman chair sit ups. I highly recommend these. I've been holding a dumbbell behind my head and lowering myself till my upper body is parallel to the floor. It really hits the abs and obliques hard.

Is it necessary to do direct ab work if you want a six-pack. I thought squats, deadlifts, and chinups will give you good abs.
