I asked a previous thread on the difference between a suit jacket and a blazer and found out you shouldn't wear the suit jacket with jeans etc. Blazers match with any pants. Suit jackets are more for formal wear and after 6pm.

I forgot to ask whats the difference between a suit and suit jacket? A suit you obvioulsy wear for an interview but can you ever a suit in replace of a suit jacket for formal wear? Would going out for fun at nighht with a black suit look less better than a black suit jacket for fun at night? Or are both suit and suit jacket the same thing?

I just know you cannot wear a suit jacket as your suit for interview. My suit jacket is from Express by the way. I will probably get a suit for an accounting interview from CK or Ralph Lauren.

Are there two terms both the same? And is black suit jacket the best color? I always see on those odds with people in the nightlife wearing black.

Generally when people say "suit", they are refering to jacket and trouser characterized by the same fabrication. It is less formal than tuxedo and appropriate for informal or day time weddings.

You've answered your question.

It all depends on the occasion and your taste. Black is popular because you can never go wrong with black:
Black suit and white shirt? check.
Black suit and blue shirt? check.
Black suit and black tie? check.
Black suit and white socks? check.... although I wont recommend this combination.
If you're looking for suit for an interview, remember to never out-dress the master....
Good luck.

a suit jacket is part of a suit. wearing a suit jacket with any other pants demonstrates either cluelessness or a deeply maverick tendencies. usually the former.

i got this reply from another messageboard

"Similarly, don't go to that interview with something you'd wear out to a club. The stuff you see adorning models in most of those "Bacardi" ads, for example, aren't stuff that I'd wear to a conservative office."

Are those models wearing Suit jackets or blazers?

Also, would you say having just a suit and a blazer is enough or should you have all 3, including the suit jacket?

Thanks.

both suits & blazers can be cut in very different ways. for an interview, you really can't go wrong with a conservative navy blazer (brass buttons) or navy suit (navy buttons & same color pants).

less appropriate blazers & suits are generally more tailored (look less like a gigantic sack), are often cut 'higher' (showing less shirt & tie) and come in a variety of colors from white to black. that is, i'd wear a very different suit for clubbing (which i don't do) than for interviews (which i don't do often)

note that it depends a great deal on where you are interviewing. for a bank or government interview, you want to go conservative. elsewhere, it all depends. but showing up for most interviews in anything that says "Playa!!!" is generally a bad move. you can't benefit--it can only hurt you, b/c interviewers are likely to be put off one way or another. even if you're confident enough to pull it off, you can do classy & confident at the same time.

Would this be a good black blazer to wear during the day with blue jeans? I see its made of polyester not sure if that's good. I notice the model wears jeans so I assume it is appropriate to wear this with any sort of pants during the day?

That tan windowpane dealy is EXACTLY what you should be wearing with jeans. Nice work. I bet you can find a pattern like that on a thrifted jacket in NYC somewhere. Go check them out!

Oh man, i wished i got it earlier this week because they had all the sizes. I waited till today which is the end of the week and i guess the early bird gets the worm.

What do you mean by thrifted jacket? Do you know any stores that have this jacket? I went to Macys and they said its sold out and that their online store and actual store don't have the same products.

Also, what's your opinion on that black blazer?

Thanks.

Thrifted means thrift store. I bet you can find a jacket with a similar pattern to that one, and much nicer material, for less than $30 in a thrift store. You live in one of the best dressed cities in the world, dude! Get out there!

The black is kind of blah, but you know my feelings on those. It works with jeans. I avoid polyester like the plague now, but not everyone does and I've owned jackets made of it that looked good.

Hey Sean, someone on another forum said this one looks similar but I see that it is 3 buttonn instead of 2 and doesn't have windowpane or does it? It is navy and tan.

1. Would you say this looks good with jeans as well?

I also was recommended to look at J Crew and saw this blazer but the color they have is MIDNIGHT and not black.

2. Would this be stylish as well?

Thankss lot for the replies again. Much appreciated.

It looks a lot more formal. I wouldn't wear it with jeans. You're looking for a jacket with a higher hem - "bum-freezer" jackets or something similar. You're not likely to find a 3 button from Macy's like that.

Midnight is a very dark navy. It was popularized by the Duke of Windsor (I think?) in the 1920s or 30s to be worn at night because it shines blacker than black in the moonlight (black shines a little green usually). I much prefer it to black just because it's different. I wouldn't hesitate on wearing that J Crew jacket with jeans.
