Just wondering man, when threads are useful, why close them? Your explanation on that safe sex thread was a joke at best! And you closed it? I have been in the same situation as the guy who posted that thread many of times, and it helps hearing peoples answers and probablities or someone who has been in the same situation etc. It is a very serious and very scary situation.
If I remember correctly, the thread in question asked "I had sex with a chick and the condom fell off, what are the odds of me getting AIDS?!?!!?". My response to this was [in summary], "There is no accurate way to determine what the probability of your contracting AIDS is with the information given". Really, the only useful information that could have been given would have been the following (which is made up, but serves to show what would constitute as useful): "Hello, I recently had sex with a female who had open sores on her vaginal area. I happen to know as a fact that she also has herpes, gonorrhea, and AIDS. I recently cut my manhood with a razor blade while shaving, and my penis came into contact with her vaginal cuts when the condom slipped during intercourse. What are the odds of me having an STD?"
Had that been the question, instead of "Oops! The condom slipped! Do I have AIDS?!?!?!?!!" then the thread would have remained open. Instead it was closed because:
1) The question it asked was unanswerable by anyone other than a medical professional even after extensive and expensive testing.
2) Based on the the following excerpt from the stickied thread entitled
"Read before posting or your thread may be deleted!", "From this point on, threads lacking details,
mainly those with only 1-2 sentences in the body, will be deleted as soon as a moderator comes across them", it violated this rule quite flagrantly. If you check, the thread in question consisted of 2 sentences. Not only that, but the second sentence was only 3 words long. I can guarantee you that if I were worried that I had perhaps contracted some STD, I would definitely type more than 1 sentence (and a second of only 3 words). In fact, I'd probably end up writing an entire book on the situation in order to get more accurate feedback.
In short, if someone asks "My car won't start. Why not?", this is not a valid thread. This is in effect the exact question which judoalex asked when he created the thread you refer to. For those of you not familiar with it, please visit the following link:

Just wondering whats the deal? Because you shouldnt have the right to simply close threads when you wish for no proper reason.....
You are absolutely correct. I should not close any thread without proper reason. However, and as stated before, "threads lacking details,
mainly those with only 1-2 sentences in the body, will be deleted as soon as a moderator comes across them". If you read further into what was written, you will find the following explanation as to why threads with 1-2 sentences aren't encouraged:
if something matters to someone enough to take up a part of the forum by posting it, they should show that it matters to them by giving whatever it is they are proclaiming some thought before creating the threads. .
The same as this thread "Live while you can; society gonna plunge in ~30yrs ", that was an interesting thread, based on economics. Where is the politics? There is barely any mentioned, if that thread is closed because someone mentioned politics quickly, when 99% of the thread is based on economics, then why close it for? Because of a "rule" that no other moderator is concerned about other than yourself.
Regarding the thread in question, located here:
http://www.sosuave.net/forum/showthread.php?t=71759
I agree that it was/is a very interesting thread. In fact, I have several comments based on texts that I have read in and out of class that I would really enjoy sharing with others. Specifically, I would love to discuss how humans in two different stages (starting 100,000 years ago as the first stage and again at 10,000 years ago at the advent of agriculture) have started the 6th major extinction on Earth. However, the fact of the matter is that the owner of SoSuave has declared that there shall be no political discussion on the forum. If you would like to ask him to remove this rule, and he does, then I will by all means not close threads that have devolved into politics (as is the case in the thread in question). However, since that rule is still in effect, I have no choice but to close threads with quotes like the following:

I could continue giving examples but I think that the point has been made. Like I mentioned earlier, if you would like to petition the owner of the site for a change of policy that is definitely your prerogative. The fact that threads which start containing political debate
always degress into name-calling and blatant flaming has been proven time and time again.
I do appreciate your calling attention the the threads which I have closed. I hope that I have adequetely explained why it is that I have taken the actions I have. In the future, if you would like to discuss thread closings with me, please use the PM feature. If you have a complaint or issue that you would like addressed, I will do my best to ensure that your point is dealt with in a manner that is satisfactory to all parties involved.
Thank you for your time.
