I was going to move up to denver in january but now im started to question what im going to do. I was thinking about going to florida but my friend got fired from his job so thats outta the question. I applied to the school i wanna go to but i cant choose any classes or anything until jan 9th, and my guess the good classes with the times i wont will be taken. Aside from that, i really have no clue what im going to major in. Im trying to decide between finance, psychology and electrical or mechanical engineering. I dont wanna be in school for a long time which is why i dont wanna do psych. i wanna do engineering but im concerned with being able to do all the math, i think i can but im still concerned. I want to have a good job when i graduate which is why im interested in engineering and finance. So if i dont go to denver that would mean i would have to stay here, in the place i really really dont like. I keep changing my mind and its really annoying. I know if i stayed here i might be able to save money, but i think i would spend it all on stupid ****. I need some input and opinions and whatever you guys have to say, i need to decide this **** ASAP.

Maybe instead of finding a good job that pays well, find a career that you find somewhat interesting that pays decent money. You will probably work for the next 40 years so its best to find something that you won't hate.

I share your "get a bachelors and get OUT of college" desire. I personally found myself to be incapable of doing the heavy math needed for an engineering/computer field. I liked biology, and went into that. To seriously pursue biology and have a career that pays a damn, you need a Masters in a molecular biology field. I have no desire to get a Masters in a molecular biology field. Dislike the stuff.

I found two careers that were of heavy interest to me:

1) The MILITARY

Dunno if your college has a ROTC program or not, but even if it doesn't, the marines/army/navy/coastguard will take anyone with a bachelors degree in ANY FIELD (political science, english, you name it) and make a 2nd. Leiutentant out of them after graduation, via 9 weeks of OCS (officer candidate school). Get through that, and it starts you off at 30 grand a year, and ALL YOUR EXPENSES ARE PAID-- NO BILLS. And if you get an Engineering degree, I believe they'll pay you on a higher pay scale. If you go through OCS, you have a 3-year commitment to the military thereafter.

If you stick with the military for 20 years, you can retire and get half-pay retirement for the rest of your life. Imagine getting out at age 45 and getting 45k a year (by 20 yrs youll be a Col. roughly, which makes 90k/yr) , free, on top of all the cash you've hoarded up from lack of bills over the years.

personally thats the route im taking. I've got 1 year of classes left before I get in OCS.

another field that caught my attention is...

TEACHING. 30-40k/yr (depending on where you live) + 4 months of the year off. Of course, the downside is that kids may be too much of a ****ing nuisance to make the job worthwhile, and the pay is just basic-subsistence pretty much... you won't be able to get a house unless you marry a girl who gets paid something. 30 years of teaching, and you can retire, but the reitrement pay i hear is pretty weak. But 4 months out of the year off, i mean dayamn....

anyway you can tell im a big fan of the military career. i think its awesome.

those 2 fields aside, you'd better find a way to do the math and get into an engineering/comp degree

the FBI really wants CompSci majors and Finance majors, I understand. Alot of Police forces and Government positions will have jobs available to various majors, from what I've seen.

I'll just expand on that. That 45K at 45+ is your PENSION. He said little about the ever increasing money you'll make during those 20 years or so.

Can someone add 60K*20 (averaged rate from 30K/yr to 90K/yr)
and then seperately..
45*40 (45->85 years old)

Or. 1.2 Million dollars and 1.8 Million Dollars equalling 3 MILLION DOLLARS in base income over 20 years of work in 60 years of life.

yep..

Im kind of leaning towards sticking with psych. My psych teacher always told us to stick with our first answer on test, im guess now would be a good time to take his advice.

The only thing about the millitary thing is i dont wanna go to f*ckin iraq or anyplace and get shot.

Doing well in ROTC will ensure you get a position in the military that you WANT. There are tons of non-combat fields for officers to work in.

Of course, that only applies for the marines and army. You can look into the Navy or Coast Guard and not worry about that. The Navy is very competitive in regards to promotions though, and has a fairly tough entry test.

I know nothing about how the military works, however just remember two things: 1) When something seems to good to be true then it probably is
2) Those military bastards will tell you anything to make you enroll
