I could use some advise..I believe I have finally perfected my form on the deadlift, thanks to Ripptoe's advise.

I am making gains, usually 10 pounds each time I hit the gym for deadlifts. Everything is going great, I'm addicted like crazy to the lift. I love the feeling of going into battle against the weight, and the high afterwards..

However, I am tearing the sh!t out of my shins. To the point where I'm bleeding on the bar. I have scars now. All these newbies, new years resolutioners, are looking at me funny. I don't really care about them, but I was just wondering if anyone else has this issue, perhaps?

I don't want to change my form. It's locked into muscle memory, it feels correct, and I don't want to do anything to compromise the gains I'm getting.

Any thoughts?

Apt neoprene shin guards work fine for me. They are very thin, so they won't affect the mechanics of the lift.

Good advise, thanks for the help guys. I think I'll try long pants first, if that doesn't work, the long socks...if that still doesn't work, add the shin guards.

On a related note, you haven't yet perfected your form. I train with elite powerlifters who still work on their form.

The more often and heavier you lift, the more you'll understand the strengths and weaknesses of your own body and your form will change as a result.

Mr. Positive-

The deadlift is my favorite lift as well. It really is an awesome test of brute power. Personally Ive never had a problem with scraping my shins, but I suggest you get a pair of deadlift socks, or just start taping them.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but can someone explain or post a link to how you deadlift succesfully? My deadlifts so far have been failures, and Ive learnt to hate the lift, can someone please tell me how to do it with proper form?

Get yourself a copy of Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe, and search around for vids on youtube.

To the original poster, first off, bloody shins are a good indicator that your are keeping the bar close to your body, which is a good sign, and like the other fellas set just get yourself some high socks or wear sweatpants when you pull.

Thanks a lot for the help, guys. I'm going to stop using shorts, for sure.

Norwegian,

This is an excellent video by Ripptoe on deadlift setup. It helped me a lot.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.
