hi ppl,
am a newbie to this forum and after reading some of the great posts a couple of days ago..i decided to join in and its great.

i've been working from my desk for about 8 hours a days for quite some time now because of which i have gained a lot of fat in the "below-waist" area which is kinda embarrassing to look at. i generally found a lot of info about fat reduction and bodybuilding articles and workouts and exercises for the "above waist" area of our body.

it would be great if someone could help me find exercises which can help cut down the fat below the waist .

You can't spot reduce fat. You'll need to start cutting, (see Diesel's Guide To Cutting if you already haven't).
Someone else with more experience will post a reply with more detail.

You haven't research it very well, no serious weight loss plan says you can lose weight from a particlular part of your body.

I don't want to embarrass you but it's unusual for a man to gain fat in these areas before the waist. This could suggest an hormonal imbalance that might be worth checking out with your Doc.

The bottom line:D is, find some activity that burns cals and you enjoy enough to do regularly and alter your diet to reflect your goals.

well...i think i may need to clarify myself a little more. i do not have any sort of embarrassing below waist fat....its very much proportionate with the rest of my body which is also not very fat...just a little "big-boned"....which should give you a better perspective...in fact unless i'm out swimming, its not even noticeable...but the reason i wanted to know about those exercises is coz i wanna look good at the swimming pool and stuff and for that lean, muscular, well toned legs look better .

i think i get ur point , treble101....the whole big boned look causing your below waist area to look huge rather than "fat"...it happens to many guys...but only some realise that toning down your thigh area has benefits to your knee and ankles.

here's what you need to do(wont even cost you a buck :) ).....
start running long distance in the mornings or evenings(whenever your legs feel not-tired)
find a hilly(or uphill) place to run these long distances)
do sit ups regularly(a must)
do leg stretching exercises(it'll be a lil tough at first...but you'll gradually get used to it)

do the above religiously for the next 4-5 months and keep a tab on the oily,fast-foodish stuff you eat and u'll see actual results....maybe you can post a pic(before&after :) )

Don't agree. It's not at all uncommon and certainly doesn't need checking out with a doctor. I ALWAYS lose and put on fat in my thighs before my belly, and if you've ever seen me you'll agree I look as male as anything, and my health is absolutely fine.

What about all those women with pot bellies?

If you mean gynecomastia then yes, this might need treating, but a 'pear shaped' deposition of bodyfat (i.e. gynoid as opposed to android, that is fat first in the thighs, hips and arse before the belly) is not uncommon at all in men and certainly isn't a 'condition' which needs medication. It's actually healthier than the 'traditional' male bodyfat deposition, i.e. in the belly - but we on this forum should be in tiptop health anyway. :p

It's just genetics.

I think you'll find, typically, initial fat deposits in men is the waist area and for women it's hips. As people get more fat it's all over.

Of course not everyone is typical.

yeah that i think is true, for us men, the fat first deposits in the waist area and for women the thigh and hip area.
but then again, differnt people have go different kinda bodies...as in some people have broad shoulders, while others have narrow ones...some've got a large frame others have smaller frames....so its alrite if some folks hav got bigger thighs an stuff....so basically wat i'm sayn is tht....TREBLE101...u aint got nothin to reely worry bout...just work out more and try out the exercises i mentioned previously.

Exercises won't help you to reduce fat around the waistline. That's only accomplished thru your diet.

There's no such thing as spot reduction.

Good advice. Exercise coupled with a semi-restrictive diet that stimulates the metabolism.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I wasn't arguing with THAT - that much I know and posted as such. I'm just saying just because someone has uncommon (for their gender) fat deposits, it doesn't mean they're a freak who needs treatment!
