Snuck into Publix grocery a few minutes before it closed on Friday...
Walking up to self checkout, I notice the young 20-something cutie staring at her phone instead of watching the lines.
"Get off your phone... I might steal something!"
Eye contact. She smiles.
While running items over the scanner I look over at her...
Make sure she's watching me as she stands 15 feet away, phone in hand.
"You get off at 10?"
Yeah... thank god.
"What are your plans after?"
Ha. Go home. Sleep.
"Jeez. That's lame. It's the weekend, right?"
Yeah, well...
By now, I've finished bagging the small amount of groceries. She moves between the checkouts and the door... much closer to me as I'm leaving.
"Hey, can you help me take these to the car? You're supposed to do that, right?"
She looks at the one bag of groceries in my hand and smirks.
And smiles.
Eye contact again. Even stronger than before.
Then she starts to explain how she can't right now because she's supposed to be watching the self checkout.
And while she's explaining this...
I become fully 100% aware of her voice...
It's terribly, painfully annoying.
Like fingernails across a chalkboard.
So bad that no amount of good sex would justify the suffering.
"Maybe next time then."
I wave good-bye and she responds in kind.
