I felt it was about time to ask about this. I feel I've tried everything and absolutely hate it.

First of all, take a look here. This is an image of my 4 main problem areas.

I'm 19 and to date, have had this kind of problem for around the last 4 or so years. It's never been that bad, but I've really started to take notice to it over the last 2 years.

I shower everyday and sometimes twice. I use a face wash everytime I shower and just started using a moisturiser afterwards (I was told to try it).

I went to the doctor 2 years back about it and was given a package of pills that I was supposed to take for 6 months. Me being the idiot I am, gave up after 4 months as I had seen NO difference what so ever in clearer skin.

I've tried benzyl peroxide based creams (at least 3 different types if I remember correctly).

I work in a fast food resturant (think gourmet burgers) in which I am constantly heated by deep friers and grills, meaning oily skin and sweating.

I don't eat the healthiest of foods. I can't really list what I eat, but in terms of healthy: Rarely any fruits, virtually no vege's and I don't often drink water (usually juice or coke when at Uni). If anything, I feel this is my main problem.

- - - - -

Ok! So that's my story. I have read about this Accutane stuff (is that it?) and I want to know if this is the right stuff that I need. I'm sick and tired of this problem, it is the source of my low self esteem and fear of revealing clothes.

I have a girl friend, whom I met with the tips of SS (I love you guys). She says she doesn't care and is perfectly fine with it. In summer, I feel the worst. I hate taking my shirt off, I just feel so uneasy at the idea of being compared to other peoples perfect skin.

Please help me sosuave, what do I need to do. Am I eating the wrong foods, what medicine can you recomend and am I doing anything wrong at the moment?

Any advice would be helpful, thanks <3.

ok mate.
this is my advice. MOST people give the worst ever advice about acne.
there advice might work for pimples, i don't know, i don't have pimples, i have acne. (not quite as bad as you, and i don't mean to offend.)
i've heard everything from, clearasil works, to toothpaste, to swimming in salt water, to sun, to a mixture of nutmeg and milk, moisturiser cream, leave them alone, don't eat carbs, drink 8 glasses of water a day. etc.

only one thing has ever worked for me.
RoAccutane. i ran a course of RoAccutane, and had 0 pimples for say a full 6-9 months, i can't really remember. then they slowly started coming back. and i've JUST started a new course of RoAccutane a month ago. its just starting to work now. i'm expecting to be pimple free, and look like i've never had pimples in about 2-3 months.

its hard for me to exactly remember the time line of effects.
but on this recent run, weeks 0-3, no difference. 3-4 the pimples got worse. 4-6 they've almost stopped coming, just a couple of larger ones, and no smaller ones. the larger ones are all but dead now, and beginning to shrink.

side effects : Most importantly, its been said that they cause depression. Which apparantly has lead to suicide. - My experience. Almost immediantly i felt less motivated, but not in the slightest depressed. found i had to force myself harder to do homework, gym etc.
dry lips. you will need lip balm at all times.
moisturise your face everyday.
towards the end of my first treatment i had random nosebleeds. so i got some "nose oil" and that fixed it right up.

How does it work? RoAccutane stops your body from producing oil.
no oil = no pimples. no oil = lips drying out, skin drying out, inner nose drying out.

if taken properly, it will work for you. you will have no more pimples.

my advice, book yourself an appointment with the dermatologist tomorrow. best move you could ever make...in regaurds to pimples anyway.

Whoa.

This stuff sounds like a godsend. Thanks heaps quest! I will head to the doctors as soon as I get some time outside of University to book an appointment. I'll also take photos of before and after, to see how much difference it really does make.

I already have lip balm that lives in my school bag, so I'm safe if I ever need it. As for Moisturiser, I've got that covered too.

Thanks again! I'll report back with good news (I hope!)

eddie i would like to point out somthing you told us if thats ok. You said that all the face washes you used and all the creams and medicines didnt work, you dont know what to do you think it could be due to your diet, you really dont know what is causing it what can you do.

You just said exactly what you think you can do to stop it yet you are still asking for help.

I have had acne almost as bad as yours, this year it started to improve, i stoped eating any food with sugar in like chocalte and stuff last week and also stoped wacking off altogether and my acne which i must say was already not as bad as it has been is not almost inexistant, it does not bother me 1 bit.

You do not need my help because you already know what to do i think you just needed some one to bounce your thoughts off of beause you obviously know what you have to do, so good luck to you.

it's more likely you out grew it.
acne is a hormonal imbalance.
girls go through puberty earlier then boys.
girls get acne earlier then boys.
girls finish puberty earlier then boys.
girls get rid of acne earlier then boys.
pimples are a hygene/diet issue.

for the most part pimples and acne = the same thing. but the causes are different.
thats why its extremely rare for any guy older then 25 to have acne. and most will be completely clear by 23.

eddiepie, when i talk about lip balm, having a "lip balm in your schoolbag" aint going to cut it.
you'll find this out if you go onto RoAccutane. i keep a lip balm in my pocket at all times, and take it to bed with me, so if i wake up at all, i apply again.

an hour with no lip balm, you'll feel your lips drying.
3 hours, they'll feel like they are about to crack. (if u sneeze in this time, they are splitting square down the middle).
after a nights sleep, your putting lip balm STRAIGHT on.

but dry lips sure as f*ck beats waking up in the morning, going to the mirror and squeezing pussie lumps.

Checkmate has made a very observant point. The question is, WHY you haven't done anything, what are your thoughts on this?

One answer might be that you are not that bothered really, certainly not enough to be pounding the doctor's door down, saying OK that didn't work, what else can I try?

Despite Accutane's side effects I can't believe you can have skin like that and have not done anything else about it.

Book an appointment tomorrow.

Moved to H&F, closed.

No offense, but in the future do a search as this has been beaten to death. Everything about accutane and acne have been addressed by more people than I can count...

http://www.sosuave.net/forum/search...d=150114&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending

(and threads with "accutane" in them):

Just so you know, my skin was as bad as yours - a long time ago - until I started taking accutane, which cleared it right up. Now it's spotless. Talk to your dermatologist - and if you don't have one, you should...
