I wana know what all you guys think of my speech, and any tips would be greatly appreciated on where i could improve .
How many artists do you come across these days that aren’t in the music industry to flash around all their jewelery, ride around in nice cars and dance around with half naked girls in their videos? Not many to be honest. So, in my speech I’m going to be talking to you about original artists. Artist’s that make their own, individual music. Artist’s who aren’t out there to create a name for themselves. Artist’s who just make music for their genuine passion for it.
The first artist I’m going to talk about is Plan-B. I like him as he isn’t your typical emcee. His lyrics aren’t based on all his money and ho’s, instead they revolve around experiences he’s encountered in real life. In his songs he talks about issues such as absent fathers, religious bigotry, underage sex encounters and stabbing people in the eyes with a biro.
Also, he doesn’t create the usual ‘grimey’ sound society has come to expect from an emcee these days. In his last album he has done cover versions of artists such as Hall&Oats, José Gonzales, Radiohead, and Larrikin Love, not what you’ expect from a hip hop artist.
I also enjoy his music as he likes to rip it outa Chavs. In his song Kidz, the opening line smacks you round the face while he puts himself in the shoes of a 14 year old wannabe gangster, bowling around, trying to gain the respect of his estate.
Plan-B’s songs do contain messed up lyrics, but at the end of the day are still really good, original tunes.
Another original artist I like is the Drum and Bass legend, Shy FX. He has proven himself to be a veteran hit record maker, who can attract listeners beyond Drum and Bass. He is the embodiment of what Drum and Bass is all about. With his use of classic jungle beats, infused with his own original style including guitars, saxophones and other un-Drum and Bass like instruments, it all makes for a really original sound.
Back when it first started out Drum and Bass was called jungle, but it became associated with criminals, much like speed garage is with chavs. It got given a bad name so producers started calling their music Drum and Bass.
Drum and Bass was a dieing genre before Shy FX hit the scene again in 2000, evolving over time since the raw, jungle beat of Original Nuttah from back in the day, to produce hits such as Unavailable which is filled with his original style and soul-filled vocals.
Shy FX, has set up his own record label Called Digtial soundboy in 2005. Despite being relatively young, digital soundboy has found its niche easily. I’m sure with Shy’s leadership and tight-knit team of like-minded soundboy crew, they will go on to produce quality drum and bass tunes.
In the end, I like him because I just can’t seem to stay still when his music is playing, the vibes are really infectious. If, by the end of the album, you’re not dancing, you probably don’t have any legs.
