WORKEROUTER
Master Don Juan
A good business starts with a good name. I recently interviewed for a sales position in a major litigation copying firm that is trying to currently change its name. Its current one is too limiting. But as you can imagine, it's a big job. Many millions need to be spent in order to effectively do this.
I've been running a small mathematics business for the past few months. Decent revenue. Time to boost it up.
An effective name is needed.
Competitor differentiations (things I want to reflect):
-customized-focus instruction
-pricing
-package deals
-better instruction
-a "come-to-you" approach
My current business is limited to mathematics. On one hand, that's good. It's my field. It's what I've been involved in for the past five years. I'm an expert not only of the material but of the instruction. Besides that, it's my passion.
Should I SOLELY focus on this area, i.e., specialize in it? I'm thinking of doing just that.
Reasons:
-Again, it's a differentiation factor compared to competitors, who try to do everything.
-Mathematics itself is a big field. From test-preparation to homework help to individual lesson plans, there's plenty to build on here.
-It's one of the most lucrative of the instructional fields.
-By specializing, I could be the best, and use that in my marketing strategy.
The problem is that I might want to eventually expand to other subjects as well, such as the humanities, in the field.
So how to choose a name that indicates a specialty but allows for future growth?
Some ideas:
I'm trying to play around with words right now. Adjective such as...
core
corners
century
pro
element
elemental
modern
Opti
fore
front
increment
Let's bounce some ideas around.
