I make mrps, blend all the darn time, make sandwiches with whole wheat bread and usually take home random food from when I eat out.. but if I want to eat right (the 6+ meals a day with body weight x1.5-2 protein/day)

It looks like what I really need is:

1) Learn to cook!

2) Learn to love to cook! (so I won't dread it taking up so much time..)

The more I read.. the more I'm thinking this is a long avoided huddle I need to jump if I want to eat right. Whats your experience? Is this mandatory?

I really think that

a) it's mandatory and

b) it doesn't have to be rocket science.

the dish quik posted recently makes my case on point (b). Learn to brown beef and heat veggies in a way that you can tolerate, and you're way ahead of the game.

i highly recommend alton brown's "I'm just here for the food" as an intro to cooking.

Healthy cooking isn't nearly as difficult as people think. The key is that you use healthy ingredients and that there is little preparation or cooking skill because the meals don't involve doing the things that are typically done with unhealthy food. You're primarily steaming, baking, boiling or sauteing, all very easy to do.

Women LOVE men who cook. They say it is not only convenient, but very desirable, in a man. The majority of awesome chefs......are still male. Tickle her tastebuds......and you go on to tickling her coochie, too.

I used to think cooking was really hard and complicated but it's really not. Especially now that you can buy pre-diced vegetables, etc. The hardest part is the clean up, lol.

Find a day and time of the week where you have at least 2hours worth of free time. Make all the food for the week/ That way you only have to be invovled with that whole cooking process once a week and its a great feeling just walking to the fridge with all your meals already prepared.

What do you cook that lasts a week?

The most I can do is 2 days at a time, or else the food gets mushy and bad.

What sort of meat do you use?

If you freeze stuff it will last a really long time. I do it with ground beef a lot, then I make burritos, or mix it with hummus, etc.

Yeah so I decided to learn to cook. I also have a friend thats a great cook who is willing to teach me the ropes so I'm lucky in that regard.

With his advice, tonight I even managed to cook myself a sirloin stake with olive oil, a lil soy sauce and garlic powder for seasoning. (plus apple sauce and string beans)

Now I know I could have done things better.. but for my first real cooking attempt/meal it tasted pretty damn good/tasty. :woo:

amen to that. I cook up all the ground beef for the week, it stays good in the fridge for over a week once its cooked. If i have left overs i'll just freeze it.
