conversation : impossible

Hey all.
I'm working in warehouse / factory place at the moment, & the thing is.. i can't really talk with anyone.

I know a 'don juan' should be confident & talkative with everyone, but i'm just no good in this job.

The people there playfully slag each other off all the time.
For Example:
mike: "hello you fat ****"
Jim: "**** you you ugly ****"

& so it goes. thats just not me. Every other word they say is a swear word, & they're the most racist, sexist, homophobic biggots i've met.

When i do talk to them, & i use some big words they always give me a funny look. I don't really have anything in common with these people. They're older than me & complain about everything, & talk about gardening, fishing, old music, stuff i know nothing, or care about.

but the fact that i'm the 'quiet one' is getting me down.

Does your day consist of doing nothing but going to work and coming straight home without any further human interaction? If you can't talk at work because of the environment, so be it. A DJ doesn't have to be a chatty little girl all the time, either. There are plenty of places to go after work to meet and talk to people...

Eh, grow up and deal with it. You can't expect everyone to be perfect. Old rednecks like that tend to run their mouths. If you don't have **** to say, just sit back and listen to them talk...you'll get a good laugh out of it when you reflect on the dumb stuff they say later.

I used to work construction...I was the "quiet guy." I'd talk when I had something to say, like when there was real conversation going on. Other than that, I kept my mouth shut for the most part.

Be secure with yourself and no one will **** with you. If they start riding you just laugh at them and tell them to shut the f**k up. It's all in fun...jobs like that can be monotonous and depressing without some kind of verbal horsing around.

I had a conversation about this with a freidn the other day. He's a quiet and decent guy but I think one day he's going to hit someone really hard. He nearly did last time... and got promoted!

I'm afriad I've never managed to get away from them either.

I did get a job in a computer warehouse. The guys were younger.....

younger versions of the older wankers who work in those places.

The wierd thing is, where did all these people come from? - they were at work while you were at school, college and Uni. Then you go to work and all of a sudden the world is crap.

I'm out of work at the moment and I too can't bear to go back to seeing these wankers day out again.

If you can get a career plan, even if I means cutting hours down, working elsewhere parttime or sweating over a CV... said the man who is trying to do exactly this.

Get a new job! If your an intellectual guy why the hell are you working in a factory? To build your muscles? If your a "jon juan" why dont you work in a place with lots of females ?

Perhaps he likes the money. There's no requirement on your way to becoming a DJ for working in a female-rich environment. If you happen to work in one, or land a job in such a place, excellent. If not, there are about... 3 billion females on the earth at any given time. That makes for a lot of conversation to be had.
