College: Odd sitting to a girl a month into the semester?

I've briefly met a few girls in a couple different classes. I've met them by talking to them after class and general fluff introduction conversations. I notice a lot of them tend to sit alone so I figured since I broke the ice with them it's ok to sit down and start shooting the breeze.

For instance in my accounting class there's this girl I talked to a bit outside of class. She sits about a row ahead of me and we've made eye contact so we know where each other normally sits. If I pull into class, see she's sitting alone is it weird if I just roll up, ask if anyone has that seat taken, and just sit down and start talking with her?

Seems fine to me but I was talking with a buddy and he thinks it's odd this late into the semester.

I would follow your plan. I think you're worrying too much.

I would maybe just sit down next to her and start talking, if no one typically sits next to her.

It is a little odd, but maybe make some joke about how that other row has some <insert deficiency here>.

It's odd. I used to make the woman come over to where I sit. I was generally be the loud and funny guy in class, and I would move around the class sometimes placing myself in front of them where they can check me out. I would also communicate with my neighbors on all side, so it would not be particularly odd if I all over sudden chat her up or even moved next to her occasionally. That's how you do it. But sitting next your target all over sudden just says "I like you and I wanna be next you at all times"- not cool and very friendzonish.... I ve seen other guys that were my buddies and they would just basically go past me and sit themselves right next to random girl they found appealing, than stay there like a leach for the rest of the semester effectively ****ocking everybody that would try to get close. Needless to say, I respected them a bit less after that.
