Dude in the US its not the government's problem how much treatment costs, because the government doesn't pay for people's health care. Yet they still ban smoking in public and slap ridiculous taxes on cigarettes. The crackdown has occurred because politicians look like angles in the public eye when they "protect your children from the dangers of smoking" . We are voting away our own freedom.
