Close Shave

I can never seem to get a close shave. I use Gillette Mach3 Turbo. I always have to shave first with the hair then go over again against the hair. Going against the hair causes my face to get really irritated. I have really thick hair and I'm really getting tired of having to sacrifice nice skin to have a close shave.

One other thing, what do you guys use to keep your goatee/beard nice and clean looking. I just use my razor but sometimes it comes out uneven. If I use my electric shaver with the built in mini-trimmers it doesn't seem to get close enough.

I just use the blade, as the electric ones don't seem to get it clean enough either.

As for keeping it even, all I have is a goatee, so it isn't too hard. However, if its slightly uneven, it grows back pretty quick.

Stover: 2 things....

One:

Try use a different shaver and see if u STILL cant get a closer shave.

Two:

It takes practice and patience to get your goatie/beard clean looking, after a while of doing it it will become easiyer to get it even etc.

If you want to look good, u need to have patience and willpower, which is something many people dont have these days, hence the fact that we see many people walking around looking like cavemen

I never seem to be able to get a perfect shave either.

I also use an M3, with a good Aloe gel and I always soften my beard before.

I use an electric shaver to the same effect now, whereas I'd hope for a closer shave with a proper razor.

I've found I get the closest and best feeling shave with Gillette Foamy with Aloe & Allantoin. I also only use the same blades for about 3 or 4 shaves then I replace.

I have a hard time with my electric shaver. It is the type with one rectangluar cutting surface. Does anyone know if the ones with three circular cutting surfaces work better?

I have used the 3 circular one, and now i use the rectangular one... and all i can say, is that i will NEVER go back to using the 3 circled one... they SUCK!!

[EDIT] Have you guys tried shaving AFTER the shower? Apparently you get a closer shave if u shave after the shower... try it

Yeah I always shave after my shower. You get a closer shave and your beard is softer--less irritation.

here are some tips you should follow:

NEVER EVER shave against the grain, as it can cause ingrown facial hair.

wash your face with luke warm water then shave or do it after a shower, as the warm water will open the pores and make it easier for a deep down shave.

after done shaving wash your face off with cool/cold water to close the pores.


I use a mach 3 and i use the following steps above and shave with shaving cream on, and it does the job nicely.

USE Shick Quattro if you desire to shave excess facial skin.

The thing is I have to shave against the hair to get a close shave. If I don't I'm left with little stubs all over.
