For my tricep routine I usually do 4 sets of close grip bench presses..and 4 sets of rope cable pushdowns.

Are close grip bench presses a good tricep exercise, or are skullcrushers more effective?

Actually you should do both! Skulls and close grip are the TWO BEST exercises for tri development.

Why not try 3 sets of each and then do 2-3 sets of pressdowns...?

BTW you should do the pressdowns with the bar - it lets you push more weight... more weight = more muscle.

Do both. I usually do 3 sets of CG bench but I pack on the weight and usually come down about 1/3-1/2 the way of a normal rep and go back up. This burns the triceps big time.

CG Bench 3X8
Skulls 3X8
Pressdowns 1X4-6 (HEAVY)

Close grip benches every time for me. Great exercise. Skull crushers are good too but I perform them sparingly as I tend to get a little elbow aggravation from them.

ya u can push more weight with a bar..but thats exactly why I STOPPED DOING THOSE!

the weight only goes up so high, and with the bar there isnt enough weight to keep me below 10 reps.

you'll be overtraining in the long run

3 sets for 3 different tricept exercises over the long run sounds like it'll get what i had gotten. severe tendonitis in the elbows from overtraining drying out the tendons and losing their elasticity and lubrication. took a few years off from lifting plus supplements to get them decent again. they still occaisionally snap, crackle, pop but at least now with 45 minute workouts of only 5 exercises per day with no more than 3 sets each or a total 15 sets upper body which includes sets for chest, tricepts, bicepts, traps, lats at least there is no more pain and the noises are much less frequent.

From my personal experience i've noticed better results with close grip bench, so good... that it's actually the only method i use for my triceps 5 x 8.

I wouldn't cut the rope out entirely, it just adds variety. But yea, stick with the straight bar for most the time.

And I have been driving cars for 6 years and I have never been in an accident. Different things happen to different people. My elbow snaps and pops despite it never happening to you.

exactly. which is why there is no reason to stop doing triceps exercises just because you get injured doing them. because it happened to you, does not necessarily mean it is going to happen to us!

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.
