I hate authority and I hate anything that I can't control. Any ideas for a career for someone like me?

This list was not well thought out.

Unless you start as police comissioner, a policeman answers to someone. Even the comissioner answers to the Mayor. Same for the firefighter, woodcutter, logger, const worker, security guard, forester and especially the soldier. Almost everyone answers to someone.

The entrepeneur answers to the customer.
A writer answers to the publisher.
A boxer answers to the trainer, the promoter and to the fans.
Moderators answer to Admin.

Almost everyone answers to someone.

That's not the point, short of being an entrepeneuer the only options available short of a life of crime and poverty are jobs that involve some degree of isolation and flexibility. That is assuming that someone isn't so dominant that they can't afford to live in society, which in that case society normally sends those people off.

You could be a monk, living alone in a forest with only Bambi and Thumper to keep you company... no being fired because you were late to work, no worries about how much your next paycheck is, or if your boss likes you enough to give you a raise...

Other than that, you could always start a dive shop on some tropical island, bringing vacationers on scuba trips...

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Not quite. A business owner CAN call the shots if the product is worthwhile or s/he gains market share. Look at Microsoft, Cisco, Kraft, General Mills, 3M. People tend to buy their products out of necessity or habit although not all of the products are necessarily the best in the market.

Exactly, but you have to remember that giving the customers what they want when they want it is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of control and dominance. Why? Because you are the reason the customers are their in the first place, or atle ast what they perceive to be the image of you. In r eality, all you are doing is leading people to you and making them feel as though they have the will to choose, when in fact it doesn't matter what it is they are buying, you gain anyways.

BWHAHAAHHAHA a soldier!!!????

sure.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

Start your own terrorist organisation. You answer to no one, and your entire purpose is to fight authority.

The closest thing I can think of is someone who is higher level management or owns their own business.

Even then, they still have to answer to people, though perhaps not in the same way. A business man needs to answer to his customers, by providing them what they want for a reasonable price. The only way out of that is a monopoly, which is illegal (why else does Microsoft get so much flack? It's only because of their size and resources that they can still survive.).

I can only hope that when you said that you hate authority, you simply hate having a boss who's officially a superior.

Being a businessman is different, but remember:

"The customer is always right."

I can definately feel your pain. I'm working on building a website, so hopefully it'll turn into something good. Then hopefully, this means no boss (except yours truly).

Funnily enough I thought monks were solitary, but I watched a programme last night all about Benidictine monks and in fact the opposite is true!

The whole point is they are part of a 'community' and from this they learn and reflect. The more I thought about this, the more I realised it applies to us all, 'no man is an island' type thing.

We all have to 'conform' to some degree, to be part of society, and the absolute worst thing you can do is withdraw.

Now when it comes to being controlled, maybe this is more a state of mind. If you have ever read stories of those in 'death camps', people who theoretically were totally controlled, it transpires that many developed an amazing resilience and survived through these experiences believing that no one could take away there own thoughts, even if killed.

Having said that, I run my owm company and can never imagine going back to taking orders from some Tosser. To get there though I needed to be a pupil and to listen to a master for many years.

You hate authority, but you hate not having it?

You'd be a perfect politician.

I think it is a valid question. I'm sure there are plenty of people like me who want their own thing, but don't have the funds to just jump out and hang a shingle somewhere. What is better than finding a career that fits your personality.

Save all that work hard, struggle BS, I've done all that, now it is time for me to find my own thing

I took some online survey thing and it suggested that I become a:

stockbroker, advertising, RE agent, business owner, teacher:confused: .......

You hate authority, but you hate not having it?
God your right. It is always fun having something to revolt against. I've been working hard on my "me against the workd" attitude.

Here's a different spin on your situation. Sometimes when we feel other people are forcing us to do things, it's just our ego that is fearful that we may lose face, fail or endure some discomfort.

For someone whose username is Self Mastery, I would look here first for answers before embarking on a quest for world domination.

A soldier would be a great career so you can learn to accept authority.
