For those of you who are bulking, what do you eat to get the amount of carbs you need?

According to Diesel's guide, I'm supposed to take in 390 grams a day. That's a lot of carbs dude.

I would appreciate it if somebody could lay out their meal plan.

Rule of thumb is 18-20 x your bodyweight. Directly, a 40%(carbs)/40%(protein)/20%(fat) split will work the best for bulking (alot of people have reported good results).

Make sure you keep your protein lean. Skinless chicken, fish, etc. Your carbs should come from starches and fibre, avoid sugars (only after workouts for before if you REALLY need it).

Bulking can be a good, or bad experience. If you do a clean bulk you won't look back and regret eating those 20 big macs through your bulking course. Though, if you bulk unclean, you'll look at yourself in the mirror and realize it's not what you wanted. If your not careful you can nearly gain half a lb of fat for every lb of muscle, and that's just not right.

I have no problem getting the protein I need. I'm also pretty sure you mean 2-3 x your body weight.

For those of you on a bulking plan, what do you eat to get enough carbs? Like I said before, I need to take in about 390 grams.

Replies appreciated as always.

Edit - More importantly, HOW MUCH do you eat of different foods to get enough carbs.

dude... getting that many carbs shouldn't be that hard. Even from lean/healthy sources.

Have two slices of whole grain/whole weat bread and a medium baked potato, and you're already at 65-80 carbs. That's not a lot of food either. Throw in a glass of milk, some peanut butter, and you're hitting 100 easy. in 1 meal!!!

If you're eating 5-6 times a day... it's super easy to get 400 - 600 carbs, they're in more foods than you think. Just make sure you get healthy ones... the guide to cutting has a bit of info on all that.

Also...

When he was saying 18-20 x your bodyweight, he's talking calories. Typical bulking is 18-20 x your bodyweight for calories / day.

cutting = 10-12 x your bodyweight.

maintenance is 14-16 x your bodyweight.

You can get alot of carbs from vegetables, like broccoli, cauliflower, onions, etc. I think you can also get carb shakes, but you should really stick to as much food as you can, rather than getting nutrients from supplements.

Plus, I'm no expert on this, and you'll rarely find an expert on this board for bodybuilding. The best advice I find is on forum.bodybuilding.com where the pro's know what they're doing.

Also, check out www.bodybuilding.com/fun/stella9.htm for a wealth of foods suitable for bulking or cutting.

Brown rice, not normal. the same goes for pasta. You don't want to be eating high GI carbs, only after training. Like I said, go to a bodybuilding board and find out useful information there.

Thanks for the replies yall.

I'm not asian but I do eat a lot of rice. Recently, I've been trying to eat a lot of potatoes. I cook up some grits and biscuits every morning so that should help too.

Wish me luck on the bulking. It's damn sure a pain in the ass.

The whole carbs thing is a bunch of crap. The human body is not intended to go without carbohydrates especially if you have an active lifestyle. So instead of altering your carbohydrate intake, just do simple things like substituting wheat bread for white bread or brown rice in place of white rice. Staying away from white sugar is also useful too.

Avoid the "carb altering" (Low carb or otherwise). It's just a fad at this time and youre going to be hearing bad things about it in the next year or so. The reason why people are so into the carb issue is because television and "experts" have convince them that's the way to go, not mention that most people dont like to think for themselves.
