Can we talk about haemorrhoids, please?

Hey folks,

I was diagnosed with grade 2 haemorrhoids last year. My doctor did not do any surgery as he said the haemorrhoids were too small and would not bother me if I increase my fibre and water intake which I have been doing. Has not troubled me much as I made changes to my diet. However, for past 3 weeks, I have been bleeding almost daily. My bowel movement is fine and I do not strain at all. There's slight pain but not too bad. Can someone tell me what's happening and how to stop it? Has someone here had similar experience and did it settle gradually? Had both upper and lower GI endoscopy - both were unremarkable.

Buy some preperation h.
The instructions are on the tube.
I'm in Australia so here it's Proctosedyl mostly. Anyway, have tried it and does not seem to help. Reviewed a few literature and looks like there are no benefits from such stuff.

You need to have a colonoscopy. I've had similar symptoms before.
By lower GI endoscopy, I meant colonoscopy. I have done it and that's how they found out about my grade 2 haemorrhoids.
Did you do anything that helped?

Try to determine if there are foods that enrage “the grapes of wrath” in yer a$$.
Avoid them. Don't wipe too hard. Maybe purchase a bidet or bum gun to use water instead of friction. (Sandpaper textured toilet paper is so archaic)

You can always consider yourself elite as roids are a hallmark of the well to do ;-)

Be thankful they aren't thrombosed external ones. Have had a couple bouts with those (which eventually burst and were reabsorbed on their own, but are prone to return I'm told). Quite possibly the most debilitating ailment I've ever dealt with, pain to the point of not even being able to sleep for multiple consecutive days both times.

I think hydration and fiber are the biggest factors in mitigating the effects / avoiding recurrence. For me I can tell you both times this has flared up were after periods of very poor eating and partial dehydration (alcohol induced).

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Cut out insoluble fiber, especially from grains, might be fine from veggies but I don't think it helps. Soluble fiber from fruits and oats is the best, but actually lowering your overall fiber can be helpful. I personally found going on carnivore to be the most effective for it though which I know people will refuse to accept.

Beyond that, take stool softeners and drink lots of water, and get prep h cream or suppositories, it's not fun to use either but it helps.

Thanks heaps, guys. I really appreciate your advice.
I have been trialling psyllium husk and has given me some relief only. Not because it's a fibre supplement but probably it has got some laxative properties? But let's see what happens if I consistently use it.
Regarding fibre, good lord, there's so much of debate whether it helps or not. For some people fibre seems to help a lot if they drink water adequately and for some people it worsens their symptoms and causes constipation despite drinking lots of water. I am unsure about me because sometimes it does help and sometimes it does not.
I will try the suppositories too. Thanks again, everyone. Cheers.

Hi Paradiddle,
Psillium and Oat Bran will scour your guts....Sweet Potatoes/Yams will give you a good run for your Money though LOL....I roast them like any other vegetable in the oven, quite delicious!....I read that a London Surgeon who had performed bowel Cancer operations on many hundreds of patients, had never had a Caribbean patient on his slab, despite there being a substantial number in his area, the reason he thought was the prevalance of Sweet Potatoes/Yams in their diet.

Thanks, mate! I will incorporate sweet potatoes and yam in my diet and see what happens. I will update in a couple of weeks. Appreciate your advice except wrapping a bit of foam rubber, round my bike saddle. Cheers.

Hi Diddle diddle...
I think what really brought it home to me,was seeing a complete Sweet Potato Tuber, after a month or so on my compost heap,it resembled a loofa sponge,so it scrubs carcinogenic compounds off the walls of the Intestines,as it passes through....Another good wheeze is to have a glass of Red Wine for a nightcap, not only softens your motions, but helps you sleep, good luck Scarra.

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.

Fruit pectin, psillium, and oats are great for GI health for sure alongside stool softeners. I hate potatoes so i can't comment on those but i imagine those can be helpful too.

Rough and hard insoluble fibers from things grain/wheat bran are a meme though. The idea we need to "scrap" our GI tract is flat out wrong. And why would adding hard, insoluble bulk to stool help with something like constipation or hemmeroids? Logically that makes no sense and there is some data that it makes everything worse. If I eat those "low carb" tortilla that are made with wheat bran it gives me horribly painful constipation. They say you're supposed to "adjust" to it ... but if I eat a ton of oats, fruits, or even veggies out of the blue I don't have that experience, only with wheat/grain brains.

I don't even think veggies help with digestion they just make you shvt more...why is that good again? When I ate carnivore my shvts were tiny and very short with zero straining because there was no extra bulk being added...

Oh another thing, this is just me, but I find spicy foods to give me horrible constipation as well, and I don't think they improve digestion at all so I'd stay away from those too if you can help it.

I've battled hemorrhoids off and on over the years. The best cure I've found besides eating/drinking right is DAILY SEX. I guess I hold a lot of tension(mental and physical) in my body and its all connected to your core. Going to the gym 5days/wk keeps my muscles stressed and that doesn't help. But I get a ton of relief after sex. My whole body relaxes and the hemorrhoid pain eases.

I also use mild soap like Dove to wash my ass! The scented cheap stuff irritates my skin in sensitive areas.

Yeah mate, it’s quite tricky. For some fibres help and for some it does not. I think it's about finding what suits you best and that's what I am doing. Thanks for your advice. Cheers.

Yeah, my grander point was really just listen to your body and don't blindly follow the advice that everyone repeats ad nauseaum
