Can having a online relationship translate into a good relationship in real life?

Hey, I have been chatting with a girl online for several weeks now,we seem to really connect well and have similar personality and interests.The girl even shares the same birthday as me! We are in a internet relationship, she lives in Ontario and I live in Nova Scotia. I know she lives far away from me, and we can't actually meet each other in person. However, We chat regularly on msn and we both have webcams/mic's. I have never had a girlfriend,*sigh*. The girl's in this area aren't my type! I have met girl's from the internet and went on dates, however romantic interest wasn't shown. It felt more like "hanging out" than "dates". What advice would you give me on online and real life relationships ?

My friend's sister is going out with a guy she met online.

They've been living together for the past 2 years I think, they seem pretty happy.

She's pretty good looking too, the dude is a really cool guy and a body builder. They're almost mid aged (she's 26ish I think, dude just turned 31)

Yeah, I go for intelligent, shy, quiet girls. I'm not interested in girls who are all about parties and acting like a slut and have no self respect. I go for girls who have a good head on their shoulders, intelligent and not all "look at me".

Will you ever be able to meet eachother in person?

And if so how long before you can meet as in years, months, days??

If you're never able to meet or at least not able to meet for a very very long time you might as well transition it to friendship sooner rather than later or else the inevitable will happen ie she will find another guy and leave you high and dry.

The idea of making it a friendship keeps you from having your heart torn out by her pulling the old LJBF on you when she meets another dude in her area plus it keeps relations between you and her good incase things ever work out and you two do get to meet one day in the future should you both be single at that time.
