Can anyone get cut? I mean i know genetics plays roles in metabolism and such but does a guy that weighs for example 300-350lbs, can he slim down and get really lean and toned? Can he get a flat stomach or even a 6 pack if they work out hard enough? I was just curious if some genetics restricts you from being cut and lean and you can never get lean like models

Yeah, I used to be really overweight, like 240 and then i got cut down at 155. My moms side of the family is big, and my dads is average.

This may be because i am young, but i think if you are dedicated enough you can get cut

you can definitely go from ridiculously high bodyfat to very low. whether or not to expect a six-pack, i wouldn't counsel anyone to expect it. weighing above 300 pounds (unless it's all or nearly all muscle) is so deadly that anyone with that much fat around the belly must lose it or expect health complications galore (ask one of my 35 year old friends about his missing gall bladder or pre-diabetic syndrome). the dream of a six-pack is in a different department altogether. just the amount of skin left behind alone could be a barrier to that. to anyone dreaming of it: you've got dozens of pounds of fat (At least) to lose, get to work on that and we'll talk about your abs possibly showing in a few years.

oh, and to answer your main question, anybody blaming genetics for weighing more than 300 pounds of solid fat is fooling themselves into an early grave. their prerogative of course.

Thanks for the response guys. I am 6'3 and 260lbs. I am a big guy but I don't look morbidly obese or anything. My dad told me once that I would always just be big and that because of genes I wouldn't be able to get small like alot of bodybuilders or the leaner guys.
I was always hoping it wasn't true and I have been working out and trying to slim down so hopefully I can get pretty close to it. I am trying not to lose weight so fast in order to prevent the excess skin but I am not sure if it will affect me as much as someone who is alot heavier

Yes but if you are ridiculously overweight and get down to your goal weight you may have a lot of loose skin or a little bit of it that will need to be removed with surgery.

Surgery is not necessary but its the only way you can fully show off all of your hard work after losing a tremendous amount of weight.

Edit: Oh you're 260? Well if you lose it all you'll be alright and shouldn't have any loose skin.

The giant fold of skin hanging to your knees if you were 300-350 lbs of fat would preclude the appearance of a six pack.
