hey there. i'm 17 years old, 5'9, about 133 lbs. i'm not too skinny... i mean, i'm not the guy whose bones stick out of the body... i'm very ripped and i receive lots of compliments for my body at the seaside or when i wear a tank top. nevertheless my body fat is under 9%, which i think is very low. i used to lift weights (i didn't go to a gym, i just lifted light weights at home) but now i'm not keen on that anymore. i'd like to know if there's anyway to reach 155 or at least 145 lbs just by doing push-ups... i can do several series of 50 pushups without too much effort, so i don't know if it'd improve my weights... moreover, does drinking milk make you gain weight? what "home food" should i eat? i mean like bread, milk, fruit and stuff that u can find at home...

good question.

I'm doing lot's of sport & do prefer not to spend more time & money in a gym or extremely professional home equipment.

The progress does not need to be SO extreme. What's a good way to reach reasonyable results, though?

Any hint welcome.

I'm going with a "no" on this one. Your body must be stressed to increase in size and strength. Sets of 50 push ups are not the way.

I can't think of a more appropriate situation for this:

Lots of people have the answer, I guess they sense you won't like it though.

If you are too much of a lazy arse to do weights to gain weight then I'd forget the idea, you'll just end up looking like the average unconditioned guy.

After all that's what they do, over eat and don't work out.

40 mins 2-3 times a week in the gym or train at home, that's all you need to invest.

alpine (and the other one): I totally believe you about the heavy load necessary to increase muscles over a certain amount. This is my experience, loads of push-ups and other training might though give you nice shape and DEFINITION, which is also attractive as long as you are not tooooo thin.

MY question (I think it's yours, too, Jay-X) is then more like: what home-equipment is needed. Is a couple of single-hand weights enough? One long one? Don't you need a rack for security reasons? Are there some simple ways to improvise equipment/excercise?

And finally: How far do you get with two 20 or 30 lbs single hand weights? How about the Testosterone? This is what I started to try out now, so I can tell you in some time, but maybe you have some hints on the way.

OK, I can help out here.

I set up a home gym, it's less hassle and cheaper.

I suggest getting as much stuff second hand. Think about it. Loads of people get weights and a bench and within a month or two give up.

You then scour the local papers and boot sales and get stuff for half the price.

It depends how strong you are but I would aim for a barbell and dumbells and get enough weight to do things like 10-15 rep deadlifts.

Get a flat bench with stand and buy a new doorway chinning bar.

Do a routine that doesn't need spotters or racks.

Here's a mass gaining routine for begginers based on 'garage training'

warm up thoroughly

2 sets of 15 reps on deadlift or hip belt squats.

2 sets Barbell shoulder press 8-10 reps

2 sets bench press 10 reps or dips (bodyweight only)

2 sets chins palms facing 8-10reps (add a weighted belt when can)

3 sets crunches to failure.

1 min between all sets

Yes that's all, and start 3 times a week, reduce to twice a week when going full bore.

I'd take about 2-3 weeks to ease into this with weights that don't tax you initially.

Before you all start, I'm saying, follow this and your arms will grow. Just do it and shut up about curls for now.
