After reading a lot on the topic I've been trying to bulk up. I'm 17 bout 5'9-5'10 and weigh almost 120lbs. I have always been very skinny but I haven't gained a single pound in almost 2 years. 6 weeks ago I started working out with a bowflex using some bulking up methods, along with eating as much as I possibly can but it seems like my metabolism is my problem. In 6 weeks of following a good workout schedule I've seen absolutely NO results other than getting a little stronger. Is there any way to slow down my metabolism?

I broke a bowflex once.

Get a gym membership, or buy some weights.. especially for a skinny guy you need these. then list EXACTLY what you eat every day, count the calories, and see how much you're not eating.

Bowflexes..I've never really been to excited for those.

Can you do squats? Deadlifts? An actual bench press? Can you Use dumbells, barbells? It's all just cable exercises.

Those guys on the bowflex commercials, i'll put my entire life savings on the fact that they probably don't use it other than for the commercial.

Here's what is usually the case with skinny guys. They all usually truly believe in their heart's that they eat "a lot." The problem is:

"A lot" is different from person to person. What may seem like a lot to you, is most likely a snack to me. If you're not gaining any weight at your current caloric intake. Why not eat more?

First thing to keep in mind from a guy who was and is like you, most of the gains you can or can not make are determined by genetics. simply put, some guys will put on much more mass with the same workouts, diet, and sleep you do. Dont get too discouraged.

Second thing; the key is to stick with it. Do not waiver, do not take a break becasue the results are slow, because they will be. It took me 5 years to get from 130 to 180 lbs. I've done sports, along with doing a real routine. Everyone can imagine an instance where their friends talk about going to the gym, or the get as far so that they actually have a workout. But think back to how many of those friends stop. For myself, I can think of 2-3 friends who have stuck with it; the rest just stopped for whatever excuse they could find.

In 6 weeks of following a good workout schedule I've seen absolutely NO results

again, don't expect quick results. 6 weeks is a short period of time. Heck, one year is a short period of time, and dont expect to be filling out those T shirts just yet.

Aim for 20 calories per lb. bodyweight, which, being that you're 120 lbs., you want to consume 2,400 calories...this doesn't have to be exact...but if you can go over that amount, the more the better.

Of those 2400 cals., consume 1-2 grams protein per lb. bodyweight and 2-3 grams carbs per lb. bodyweight. Consume 10-20% of your calories from good fats such as flax oil, almonds, etc., and drink a gallon of water per day.

I personally would ditch the bowflex and join a local gym. You need to focus on performing compound exercises such as squats, deads, and bench. A single compound exercise works several muscle groups, so you're getting the most bang for you buck.

The Bowflex may work, but I gained my muscle using dumbells and barbells. The Bowflex just seems too machine-like for me.
good advice there from the lil guy although you may need even more food than that.

I started actually doing cardio and downing a ton of green tea. I've dropped from 184 to 179 now while eating MORE than i used to... no loss of strength.
