Let's say you're in your late twenties, you've lost touch with all of your old friends from years ago, and you live in a relatively dull environment. Every night you find yourself with nothing to do but watch movies at home or whatever.

How do you get out of this rut? Where do you even begin? I've tried meet up.com, but all of the meet ups in my area are aimed at weird hippies or aging housewives. I used to be able to go out to a bar on my own when I was a bit younger, but I never had any real success with that.

I want to take up some hobbies like shooting, knife throwing, and other bad ass stuff like that, but these are mostly solitary endeavors. What is the best way to end up in a situation where you meet lots of interesting people?

The best way to meet interesting people is to be interesting yourself. Find the nearest cafe or bookstore even if its a hike and make it your own.

Do the meetup thing, you might find some knife throwing hippies :)

Sign up for salsa classes. You'll meet new people there, but that's just the tip of the iceberg coz there are salsa parties organized almost any day of the week, which you can go to! No more waiting for the weekend, you can go out any day then!!

You already know the answer: hobbies. My suggestion is to try and match up your interests with things that are going to put you in contact with the kind of women you are interested in. If you like photography and models, learn photography semi-professionally. If you like fitness girls and work out, go do Crossfit or climbing which both have lots of women involved in.

The key is to pick hobbies you're genuinely are interested in. Also, check out meetup.com for stuff in your area that might be of interest to you.

Dear Die Hard,
Have you forgotten your excellent post on Yoga Lessons?Dance classes and this would seem the way to go.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Is meetup.com any sort of dating site? I always love finding people who share the same hobbies, but have a gf, and do not want to be on a dating site.
