Hey all!!! I have 2 months to get ready for boot camp!! I'm already really cut and strong and in EXCELLENT cardiovascular shape.

But I want more. I WANT TO BE THE BEST THERE.

I'm not looking for generic advice. I want a hardcore plan. I want to be totally ready - no surprises. Can anyone help me out? I have tons of time (as in free time) and i'm willing to put all my girls on hold as I'm making my way to the top. I'm also a skinny guy and a hard gainer.

Every day you should be doing this.

NOTE- If you can't do this yet then just start of slowly and bump it up as time goes on. When this becomes easy, increase the amount of volume or time for some of them.

Strength

.200 Pushups- It doesn't matter how you do them. It just matters that you do a total of at least 200 per day. Maybe 4 sets of 50 or 8 sets of 25

300 Crunches- You can change around the exercise for different variations if you want.

80 Pullups- You can do chins and pullups. Do as many in a row as you can.

and if you have time to go to the gym you might want to do some Powerlifting movements such as squats, deadlifts, bench press, clean and jerk, snatches, etc. Just make sure you're not overdoing it with the weights.

Cardiovascular

If you can get to a gym or something I would suggest doing some suicides or other type of wind sprints.

Run 5 miles per day. Try to keep them under 9 minute miles, lower the time as time goes on.

And don't forget about nutrition. Make sure that you're eating healthy. There is no need for you to go on a cutting or bulking diet. You just kind of want to watch what you eat.

Hope this helps. If you have more questions or comments then feel free to ask.

I went to a military academy, but transfered out so I could meet the ladies.

The concepts are similar. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY suggest putting on some extra fat before going...you might not be as good on pullups, but that extra fat will disapear very quickly...I lost 20 pounds...which isn't good..I'm 6'2" 145 pounds now, use to be 165.

There will be lots of running, and they will probably only give you 5 minutes or less to eat. Extra fat is a good thing in the beginning phases.

I take it Boot Camp is like iniital training for joining up over there in the states?

I dunno about there, but the emphasis is more on being adaptable and giving 110%, whether thats 30pushups, or 150, aslong as the PTIs see you have given 110% effort, your sorted, if your fit as fuk, an can piss out more than required and are smug about it, you'll be branded a wanker....an nobody likes a wanker! ;)

I'd also suggest NEVER be first, you want to be the "grey man" throughout military training, dont ever be first to complete the task, try and come 3rd or sumthin, try not to draw attention to yourself.

The corprals will spot potential, dont you worry about that, just dont draw attention to yourself. Frequenctly over here, if your 1st/2nd back from a 5miler, you'll be given pressups for being smug ;)

Again, im not sure, here, the emphasis is a lot more on endurance training, being able to take a 30mile tab over hills, with 65lbs of kit on your back, with weapon, in the pissing rain with the DS (instructors) constantly reminind you what a lowlife peice of skum you are, and how you'll never pass, you'd mite aswell jus give up now ;).

So try for endurance training, upper body strength plays its part, but, you'll develop that with all the pushups etc etc they will knock out of you.

Hopefully things are the sameish :) Hope thas helped a little. PS, goodluck if you are joining up, I aim to join the Royal Marines in a few yrs time, im off to the British Army's Officer Traiunign Corps in September to get meself ready!

I agree with Newbie on this one..

since boot camp is pretty much calisthenics/running/obstacle course intensive that's how you should train. I don't think 6 weeks in the gym is going to do a ton of difference at this point, but it wouldn't hurt.

If you get bored, you can go on T-mag and do searches for John Davies' "Renegade Training" articles.. they have a lot of cool unconventional training techniques that should translate well for the kind of work you'll be doing in boot camp.

good luck,
D
