Well, I haven't seen the show, so I can't comment. And yes, I agree, it is inner game that counts. But, I also agree, that you have to fake it till you make it.
Here's what I've gathered from my personal experience: Whether its myself, or watching someone do an approach, and immediately start flirting with a chick, not only does the chick get creeped out, but her girlfriends will c0ckblock, and any guys in the group will be standoffish. When someone comes over to a group and starts random conversation, like he's just a friendly guy with no motives, who doesnt stick around too long, the group warms up to him and drops their shields, and doesnt mind if he comes back later, cuz hes a fun guy or whatever. Then, he can start making his moves on the target.
I dont pay any attention to the body rocking thing, because as you say, it is fake, and I dont think the OP should worry about it either. The point behind it is, that you shouldnt go sit with, or try to be a part of the set until they have warmed up to you and welcome your presence. I know I dont want some random dude infiltrating my group unless I deem him worthy, especially if there are chicks in the group. This is where you DHV, whether conciously and delibrately (like MM) or naturally. Whether you agree with MM or not, this is basic social dynamics.
The best natural I know, goes up and talks to EVERYONE around, especially the chicks, but he doesnt hit on them right away. He's unconciously doing evrything mm preaches. He's DHVing, he's making every group welcome him. He creates jealousy plotlines by paying attention and kinoing every girl, then moving to another girl. And he waits until the girls are moderately interested before making any real moves. He's a total jackass, but everyone likes him because he's so social. I have seen chicks fight over this guy when he was half passed out with puke running down his shirt!
MM gets behind the social core of this behaviour and imitates it scientificaly. I cant get into the canned stuff as its too much to remember and can seem false, but it makes sense to have a couple of your own good stories, or jokes, tricks or whatever ready to entertain your target. All DHVing is is entertaining . If you have no problem with that, great. Some people do however.
