big gut at 9% bodyfat

i'm 5'9 and i weigh around 140lbs. my bodyfat percentage is around 9%, so i should pretty ripped. i actually am most of the time, but when i have lunch or dinner, my gut sticks out for 3-4 hours. also, at this bodyfat percentage, my abs should always show, when they actually do just 50% of the times.

the strange thing is that sometimes i have a huge six pack (really similar to brad pitt's, not to brag), while other times i have a gut.
what is that?!?!

i remember when i was a child, i was always the skinniest in my class, but my gut always sticked out. now, it happens just after meals, but it still does.


also, when i was bulking and my bodyfat was around 11,5% (which should be about normal), i constantly had a gut, like a slightly overweight guy's...


any thoughts about this?!

build more muscle, fix your posture, do vacuums to help with the gut-sticking-out part

Can you trace.. what food you ate when you had a gut? It might be hard though to remember.

Anyway, how about if you try to have more small meals instead of...what you currently have? I.e. dont eat much in one meal, speard it out in several meals. Eat 4 times istead of 3 or 2.

my scale measures it, anyway you could tell by watching me... my veins and muscles are really ripped everywhere. in the morning, even the abs are often excellent

Anyway, what you're discribing almost sounds like a distended stomach... protruding but with still visible abs. I'm guessing you're just kind of a skinny bastard (140 lean at 5'9"?) which makes your stomach stick out when you eat a lot. Stomach vacuums was a good suggestion.

dude i got the same problem. even back in the day when i was lean as hell and had ripped abs my stomach still stuck out.

someone please post a link to vaccuums and posture exercises or whatever the hell we should do.

I suggest that you start keeping a log of what you eat and when. Also log your body measurements and the exercises you perform.

My guess is that you are retaining water and your intestines are not absorbing the food you're digesting and your system is backed up. You'll see after reviewing your log that there's a trend in what's happening to you.

ok, this morning i woke up and i had a perfect 8 pack... it was really awesome and very visible (i've been doing abs yesterday). i had lunch and the 8 pack was still there... then, i had my abs workout and guess what? it disappeared and now i have a big gut... what the fùck is wrong with me?!?! how the hell can i get a gut AFTER working my abs?! i didn't even use weights, just some crunches and leg raises...

My guess is some of your meals are very high in sodium, and its hard to eat lean meats with lots of protein and still maintain low sodium. But my guess is you are having high sodium meals and this causes you to retain water, which fills the cells in front of your abs, causing you to have a gut. Everyones stomach sticks out a little after a good sized meal, but if you have high sodium intake it is more noticable.

ok, i think you are right about the sodium (i noticed that water is what makes it really stick out), but what about the abs workout?! why does it make it stick out?

As for bulking. If you're bulking hard you are gonna get the gut forming thats what happens when you start eating all those extra calories.

If you put on 20 lbs i don't think you'd have this problem any more.

i know it sounds strange to most of you, but i assure you guys that people always compliment on my body and i have great muscles compared to my friends' and classmates'.
i tried to put on some lbs (i wanted to get to 155), but my abs had gone away and i wanted them back for the summer, so i stopped. i'll bulk again from september to next june.

anyway, how could my gut go away if i put on 20lbs?!

I have the same problem.

A lot of the the things mensioned are right.

If you are skinny, the bulk of your food will stick out.

You get bloated, possibly through a poor digestion/food intolerence (wheat, dairy, beans)

Poor abdominal tone. Vacuums. Core exercises-pilates.

Posture. Stand by the mirror sideways when you appear bloated. Push your hips forward and rotate your pelvis up. What happens to your gut?

Build huge pecs.

I have the same problem. 5'11 155-160(it varies every day) I have pretty ripped abs as well, but my stoumach sticks out like crazy when i have large meals. Btw, what are vaccums?

it's when you exhale the air in your lungs, suck in your stomach as much as you can and hold the position for as long as you can

oh man, that sucks so much yet makes so much sense. I love salt :(
