Lay off the ****y+funny it is a myth perpetrated by David Deangelo that doesn't really work unless you are going for 15 year old girls or women with the mentality of a 15 year old.

Believe me, ****y funny works. It may not have worked for you, or you might not have done it right, or given it a fair shot, but it works. ****y, yet not overdone, works. The humor part is used to make the ****y part more mellow. OK, semantics, who cares wether it is confident, or ****y, etc. it is the same idea. Yes, maybe newbies shouldn't even be messing around with that concept without first working on their personality and hangups.
Although, I have had tons of women tell me "You are kind of arrogant!" with a big smile and look that clearly tells me they are very attracted to me. Many of them confirmed it later on that they were very attracted to my confidence. So even the women get confused with the teminology.

It's a skill you develop over time. I remember when I first started using ****y humor, women used to say I was conceited, and I turned into a somewhat "*******."
However, as a month or two went by, I noticed the jokes I started using that worked, and the ones' that didn't. I layed off the ****y a tad bit and used a combination of Funny, sweet, and ****y. I have found this works the best for me!
Note: When you insult somebody, you are not using ****y humor effectively. I strongly suggest you look at some threads in this forum, there are many great one's out there! Once you read a couple, you will start to make some on your own!
Also, don't use ****y humor on girls who are insecure, shy, etc.. you will not the get the same result as if you were approaching a 7 or an 8. ****y humor just sets you apart from other guys, at least in my opinion. It shows that you aren't just a quiet guy, you are funny, energetic, and you think of yourself really highly. Girls don't say it, but they like a guy who is just a little bit too ****y. As long as you know how to balance both funny and ****y, you will notice results. Also, don't do it too much - only do it when it's a perfect moment. You don't always have to be ****y and funny, take everything into moderation!

I would use that depending on your relationship with the girl. If you hardly talk to her, you might scare her. I know pretty much all the women I associate with really well - so I tend to tease them all in the same way.
Either that, or I would not reply to the text - do this especially if you tend to reply to texts all the time.
If you find she is texting you ALOT and you hardly talk to her on the phone, and you want to hear her voice, text her back with something such as:
"Wow, can't we just talk on the phone like NORMAL people? " And depending on how ****y you were before or how well she knows you, you could add this: "I know my good looks may be intimidating, but don't worry.. I don't bite... too hard."
I just thought of those in like 2 minutes to be honest - perfect the art of ****y funny and I'm sure you will be able to think of better answers.
