Before and after pictures of 1 month working out at the gym.

I've been dieting and going to the gym on an almost daily basis for about a month now. It has been tough making time to go and restraining myself from pigging out on food.

And as of today:

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2691/aftergymry5.jpg

It's so painful cutting junk food completely out of my diet. Seeing people around me eating a bunch of pizza and me just watching them pig themselves out.

I've cut out soda as well. At most I drink light lemonade or just plain water.

I've been eating fish daily as well as shredded wheat cereal, and I just started taking in some whey protein dietary supplement stuff that I add into Soy milk that I drink every morning. I've been lifting weights over at the gym and I hope to have a leaner and more toned body. A Brad Pitt fight club look is my goal! I hope to be there next year. My goal is 6-pack abs in 6 months!

Wish me luck guys! I feel that the sacrifices are going to pay off sooner or later.

Good job dood...glad to see your making progress...i have no idea if you wanted an opinion but being the jerk that i am...i'm giving one (and i def am)

I say build muscle first, if you don't have a diet/workout plan you are playing a guessing game on how you will turn out. I haven' the slightest clue if you know what you are doing How much do you weigh? If you want abs...you need to check out the link below

...I think tho....if you don't do this youll have to weigh like 140 to have them...which imo wouldn't be worth it and make you look wayyy too skinny but if its what you like then go for it...if your goal is somewhat to impress ladies realize most girls want a big muscle guy...reminds me of pooks post from a while ago

Oh absolutely, I started changing my diet, and I don't completely know what I'm doing, but my results so far have been from things I've read on google and such. Watching workout videos on youtube of models, and researching on other forums. I'm cutting back the garbage in my diet, and eating more protein. I've been observant of how many calories I've been taking in, and I've been taking in anywhere from 1000 to 1500 calories. I don't want to be HUGE and bulky, I just want to be nicely toned like an underwear model...

Hehe, I'm not doing this for the ladies. I'm doing this for me because 6-pack abs and a strong looking chest are what I've wanted. After getting rejected by some girl I became mad at myself and put that anger into the gym.

Thanks for all you posters on this forum! I really appreciate any advice you can all give me to learn how to put on muscle and cut back my body fat.

I'm 6' 1" and 167 lbs. I'd like to be around 180-190 lbs of muscle. lol

Alright dude...if you want to reach a goal of just 15 pounds of muscle you could easily do it within ten months or less. First thing you have to do...is STOP EATING 1000-1500 calories. That right there will not only make you lose weight...but muscle too. And if you are working out with this caloric diet you are on, it will not make you bigger...but weaker, and smaller. Thats def not what you want. And another interesting fact is that by eating on this diet, you are slowing your metabolism down dramitically....so when you do eat, you will gain fat faster. Although its only been a month of this so you may be okay.

Your diet needs to def be around 3500 to 5000 calories...yes you read correct. And your protein needs to hit at the very very least 340 to make substantial strength and muscle gains.

Now there are def many ways about going about this...and depending on your pocket money...it will depend. Also realize...you won't wake up big okay? You need to eat big to get bigger to your goal of 180-190. (And losing fat is very easy if you build up and excess) And when you are happy you stop. You have nothing to worry about.....it takes a couple years to get huge to like over 220lbs of muscle

Now, being that you've dieted with very little calories i recommend that you bulk up slowly, don't start eating 5000 calories...i don't think you could do it. What i would say is bump them up to about 2600 calories and go up every week about 200-300 calories till you reach somewhere between 3500-5000 calories. Think about this....most people need about 2400 calories a day (Me too)...if you eat less than that, you will lose weight..if you eat more than that, you will gain. If you eat exactly that, you will not gain anything. make sense to you?

Here's a good diet thread recently done by EFFORT......ask any diet questions there

keep doing this...for years. You will get lean, ripped mature muscle mass if you keep up with weights and cardio for years, and will get progressively bigger. I had a similar frame before I gained 45 pounds, it is worth it to keep lifting !

My workout routine has been around 45 mins of fast paced walking and 45 mins of weights (alternating days). My lifting routine just started. I do around 15x3 of 25 lb dumbell curls. 15x3 25 lb hammer curls. I do 15x4 incline press with 20 lb dumbells. and I work the peck deck quite a bit. Then I do some leg ups and crunches with a small 5 lb weight on my chest.

While this probably isn't the best workout routine, it's what I've used so far...

Yep, that's the plan. Keep in mind though that I'm not after just putting on some mass. I still want a lean look to me. Think Model. I know that's not the body that a lot of the people on this forum strive for, but it's "my" personal goal.

I appreciate your input though. I'll be sure to check out the threads you and everyone recommended. Thanks again!

If you amp up your eating, throw in 2 extra protein shakes/day and another before bed every night, in one year you'll look 100x better.

You look good enough to pick up chicks. Don't let the meatheads tell you any differently.

What are your goals? Muscle gain, cutting?

Well thanks! I would just like to be very toned with a low percentage of body fat. As I said earlier, I'd like to have the body of a model. Nothing big, and not too skinny either.

I appreciate all people trying to help, but the information given here is TOTALLY WRONG! I am a Fitneß und Nutrition Trainer so i know what i am talking about.
First for skinny guys who have a fast metabolism while dieting for fat loss an energy consum of 1600-1700 kcal for a weight of 167pounds is ideal. And while dieting do a refeed once a week, that means eat normal and whatever you like. That prevents the body from going into a safe mode
Second for gaining mass 3000 kcals are ideal, everything more is just going to be stored in fat. And losing this fat after is everything else than easy. You will curse for every kg!
Third an protein intake from 1,5-2gramm per kg weight (new Sport University study) is enough. Everthing more aint used for muscle building und can damage your kidneys if you dont drink enough daily.

Train hard, eat smart, sleep 7,5-9 hours daily and you will become impressive
