Well i've been hittin up the gym for the past few months working arms, chest, shoulders, etc different days and i've fell into a nice routine.

It appears that i'm getting bigger, but I havent gained any weight. Now this makes me question if I actually have gained any muscle, considering that my weight is the same. Am I doing something wrong, i'm really confused. It's scientifically proven that more mass= more weight, so wtf is going on.

I wouldn't worry about it, I'm going through the same shit right now.
Only thing I can think of is genetics. I've been from 140 lbs to 210 lbs back down to 170 lbs. I think this is close to where my genetic potential might be. Maybe as I hit my 30's I'll be around 180's. But I'm noticing that putting on LEAN muscle with no fat gives the appearance of being bigger but the scale says otherwise. Actually I don't even think I'm getting that much bigger rather, my body is becoming much more sculpted, its the the convex curves of the muscle that give the illusion of size.

oh and this whole concept of mass...I dunno, the more experienced I get with this fitness stuff the more I'm starting to think the term "MASS" is such a misleading word and not so great after all.

(my interpretation from a weightlifting perspective) Mass = FAT + MUSCLE = heavy
Lean = Low Fat + MUSCLE = light

which camp would you rather be in ???

exactly, what are you in this for, gravity holding you down more strongly, or appearance of size?

if you really want to add weight and are determined, you'll need to eat more. but if you're happy with results in the mirror, who cares what the scale says?

You're probably shedding the fat, and the definition you see now makes you appear more muscular.

It's called gaining muscle while losing fat.
