Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I didn't major in art but more than once have I been complimented on my talent in paintings and drawings. They're not the modernistic abstract type but the classic "fine art" realism type.

I about to put some up on eBay and to convince my local gallery but I was wondering if there's a better/faster way to gain recognition. What is the art scene looking for these days anyway?

Of course I'm not expecting to becomee Michael Angelo overnight, but I certainly hope to get some nice bucks out of it. Peace.

I know people who have done the same and I think you will be very disappointed with the sales from Ebay. Even the best work barely sells and those that do tend to be related to an in thing like Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Star wars etc.

I think galleries are your best bet because gallery staff obviously have an eye for good art and spread the word. I've also been told that it is eseential that an artist can promote his work and needs to be able to speak the lingo, act and dress the part and have the character. Dumb, but I think there's truth to that.

Apparently it is extremely hard to break out as an artist and the amount of effort put into it rarely has a sufficient pay off.

Good luck! I like the sound of your work and hope you make it!

my career is in art (will be very soon). and the art scene is the same as it ever will be once your good with the foundational things, form, shape, value, color theory, anatomy, compositon you will be alright. everything is done digitally now. you can make a living as a fine artist doing galleries but you MUST HAVE STRONG ACEDEMIC SKILLS. to gain recognition is to be the best, if you have a strong portfolio you will get people to give you backing and you should be able to make good money freelancing. its not that tough to make it successfully as an artist, you've just got to be THE BEST. an online portfolio or website, and biz cards are a must, market yourself.
