Hey fellas,

some of you may remember I left on September 1st for 4 months officer training for my 2 year obligatory stint in the Cypriot national army. Returning last night, tired, drained, me and the rest of the lads. About 12:30-1am, last 4 of us going through the gate to get to our parents who we haven't seen for 4 months.

Friend of mine, drops his bags, runs forward arms open, his girlfriend does the same, squeals, and the whole jump-and-hug scene occurs as you see in films. They haven't seen each other in 4 months, and what I saw was more emotional and moving than me seeing my dad ( he had visited for 2 days in the middle of my training, so it was like "hello again dad :D" ). It would have brought a tear to my eye if I had stood and stared at my mate and his girl.

After 4 months of training, being away from your normal life, and having this presented in front of you was one of life's most beautiful moments. I can only hope that someday I am in my friend's shoes, and can live that moment. For now, I'm happy for the bloke and his girl, it was just an incredibly moving thing to behold.

My point? Life is so much more than people who haven't lived through certain things think.

Don't be materialistic, new-era punk/gangster kids, do something that will make a man of you, get some values, respect and love your country and family, go without the things you normally associate yourself with for some time and get in touch with what REALLY matters to you and your life, and don't get too drawn into the whole "how to get laid in 1 night!" aspect of social life, love does exist, WORK hard, don't be afraid to do anything, be honest, have dignity and self-respect, and don't sell out.

This has definitely been a lifetime experience for me, I am a changed man. Not the airport, the combination of my training and then the scene at the end was like a closed package of life-changing experiences.

Take care everyone, and love thy neighbor, unless he's Turkish in which case kill the bastard! (Blackadder, not some political slur).

:)

Yes. The funny thing is once you realize what is really important you cease to be afraid of life, you want to experience everything you could possibly dream of, and you develop the resolve to follow through on those dreams.

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.
