How do you guys use the barbell if you go to the gym on your own? Isn't it dangerous without a 'spotter' if you are lifting heavy? At the moment I am just using dumbbells for chest and triceps work.

You can also use the smith machine if you want to do barbell exercises without a spot when you need one. You can always ask other people at the gym to spot you if you need the help.
