Ever since I started this job, which I like alot, my sleeping patterns have been wack.

I've had maybe one night of good sleep in two weeks. I really need to get some shuteye.

Any good suggestions? I've tried sleep aids, booze, milk... nothing. Trying to narrow down to what's keeping me up. I work up until 10:30pm every night. I probably shouldn't eat when I get home I think? ...maybe it's that multivitamin?

I dunno but I'm desparate for sleep.

Is there anyway you can alter your hours? I'm not sure whether you're on shift work or not, but any alteration in yours hours could do the trick.

Since you're working so late, do you drink anything to give you a lift? Coffee, Red Bull, all that stuff?

If possible it would be good to lay off eating before bedtime yeah. If you're not giving it enough chance to digest your body won't be able to adjust to full sleep mode.

Working until 10 30 is harsh, very harsh.

I drink a cup of coffee around noon.. but nothing after that. Staying awake, lately, is not a problem for me. :)

Hmmm? ..maybe since I'm doing fine staying awake. I probably don't need to drink coffee anymore. :D

My hrs are from 1:30pm to 10:30pm Mon-Fri. Not bad hours, as I get to sleep in late, and at 10:30pm, it's still early enough for me to do things with friends.

Haha, yeah, no coffee has gotta be at least slightly better for ya :)

Those are pretty good hours actually, better than starting in the A.M I tell ya!

I have experienced somewhat of an insomnia problem due to a change in hours at work. Going from an 11am-8pm day, to a 6:30am-4pm job was a real shock to the system. It took around 3 weeks for the body to adjust fully, getting to sleep at nights was hell, then getting up without good hours behind you was even worse.

Give it a bit more time, hopefully it's just your body being too lazy to change. If not, you should probably hit up a doctor about it, it could just as easily be medical.

Good luck buddy.

Do a Google search on Circadian rhythms. Yours are out of whack. Even though your body would prefer that your rhythm have you up during the day and asleep at night, if you develop some sort of rhythm you'll sleep much better. Recently you've undergone a dramatic shift in your rhythm, which is causing you all the disruption. Your body is hormonally adjusted to be awake during a time frame your calendar says you need to sleep.

If you need sleep aids to help adjust to your new schedule, I'd recommend not using powerful sleep narcotics. Instead, try melatonin or valerian root. For something a little more powerful without the heavy drugging, you can try diphenhydramine hydrochloride (the "PM" portion of Tylenol PM, little blue pills sold as "sleep aid"). It's an antihistimine - the active ingredient in many allergy medications - which is why it's labeled as non-habit forming.

Forget all the eating remedies. Those are old wives tales. If you eat a bunch of carbs or a gigantic holiday-style meal though, the insulin spike and crash you experience will cause temporary fatigue. Very unhealthy.

Bottom line, be disciplined enough to get up and go to bed at the same time every day/night, and after two weeks your rhythm will adapt.

Sounds like the plan.. thank you.

It just seems that no matter how hard I try to sleep, I can't. I turn in every niht at 12am. and all I do is toss and turn. I'll take a couple PMs tonight, and have me some valerian root... hell, at this point, I'll smoke a turd if it'll give me some z's.
