My new favorite beer is $13 for a 30-pack. I have never liked a cheap beer before. This is the first beer in a can I've bought since high school.

It's making me have to form a lot of new drinking rules. I don't drink it away from home or leave home afterward. I never start early in the day, and I try to wait until late evening to have the first beer.

My personal opinion (judgment) is, the term "alcoholic" is just a man-made figment of our imagination. Just like "bulimia."
As a clinician I do think there are legitimate alcoholics who need treatment. Alcoholism has both a physiologic component and a psychogenic component, and there is evidence for heritability. Whereas bulimia, and other eating disorders, are almost exclusively psychiatric problems.

That said, I do think the label "alcoholic" can be a massive crutch and many people label what is in fact a constitutional lack of self-control as their "disease" of alcoholism. It just becomes an enabler of further relapses and bad behaviors.

When I meet a guy who has 20-some years sober, I think, this dude is legit. Whatever he did during his drinking days was enough for him to completely abstain from alcohol for multiple decades, so power to him. Who am I to challenge that?

I spent some time in AA years and years ago when I was a teen. I was never an alcoholic, nor even a problem drinker, but long story short I ended up there through a series of events. When I reflect back on it today, as an educated adult, I realize there were 2 kinds of people in AA: Group 1) legitimate alcoholics who would have completely decimated their lives (and other's) if it weren't for the grace of others and a commitment to the program, and Group 2) losers. That's right, straight up losers who were either unable to function as honest adults or just manipulative parasitic types who used others for pity, sex, money, etc.

Would add a third group, people who are conned into it by the social work industry/gynocracy. Every kid who is busted for underage drink, PUI, smoking a joint, DUI and anything greater (about 50% or more of the male population at one time or another) gets sent through a system that makes its money telling everyone who drinks or especially does any illegal drug in any quantity they are an alcoholic/addict. They pepper them with the most egregious horsesht propaganda pseudoscience dreamed up by statist "doctors of social work," presented in the materials as "DR. so and so" as if they are medical doctors. And I mean PSEUDO science, not a scrap of legitimate study anywhere to be found. The whole point of it is to grow the government trough and convince more people they are legitimate "clients" of the addiction industry for catching a buzz. More "addicts" out there, more funding and grants for the quacks and charlatans, more gov jobs for drool cuppers and women.

Ever drink more than you intended to? Alky. Ever passed out from drink or drugs? Alky. Ever throw up after drinking or using? Alky. Ever get in trouble due to drinking? Alky. Ever called in sick after partying the night before? Alky. Ever drink and then do things you regret? Alky. Not "frequently" or "habitually" but EVER. ROFL. They make these kids sit in these classes and rinky dink "counseling sessions" conducted by the biggest public sector morons you could ever conceive of just pouring the brainwashing of their "illness" into them. It's no wonder so many people in our society have no sense of self-reliance or accountability for their actions, we have a vast sea of diploma mills pumping out mindless bureaucrats telling everybody how beset upon and victimized their special snowflake lives are. And what's the solution? More... government... but of course. They break young men down into "victims" bearing their various addictive "crosses" with them, and guess where this leads? Real alcoholism and substance abuse problems due to emotional instability, low self esteem, etc. Well, guess gubmint gets what it wants in the end one way or another, more than one way to skin a cat... or f up a young man.

Rant off. Was hoping to be funny, but rereading it just looks angry. Oh well.

Except I used to go to aa, and I'm neither of those.

I rarely talked. I mostly listened. Never used any of those people for money, sex or pitty.

So there big guy. Explain to me then how that is possible, since you have never had problems with substance abuse but still seem to think you have a better understanding than some one who has.

You don't fvcking know me man. I dont know if this post was directed at me, but if you were to say somthing like that to my face and direct it at me... Let me put it to you this why, you don't where I've been or what ive been through.

I would beat the fvck out of you, smash your head in your bmw's wind shield and curb stop you.

If that post was directed at me I certainly hope that your children get addicted to drugs and grow up motherless.

I got caught drinking in highschool and they sent me to ‘alcohol counseling'. These fvckers made me take a true/false questionnaire to determine if I had a drinking problem. I was 17 at the time. You want to talk about needless government bureaucracy? First hand experience right here.

How about another time when I was a teenager, working for a fast food restaurant that served beer. Some big ass dude (at least 6'2) walked in and ordered a beer. I was tired and busy and only glanced at his ID - he looked more than old enough. Next thing I know, ATF comes in and arrests me for selling alcohol to a minor. I was a fvcking minor! That turned into 20 hours of "teen court," which finally ended in my doing 40 hours of "community service."

I've had a lot of fun with big government.

For all those who talk about how 2 drinks a day makes me an alcoholic, think about how much the Greatest Generation drank. They would have a drink at work at lunch in their office. A tall, stiff drink when they came home to relax. A couple glasses of wine at dinner. You get the picture (and lots of smoking in between all of this).

I think our modern standards have become so wishy-washy because of the Boomers' hatred for their parent's generation that anything over 1 drink a day is considered "alcoholic."

Or maybe I'm missing something.

My fault gents. Yesterday was my first day with no alcohol, after a 6 day binge (I think 6 days). Cold turkey is the worst. Feel like your dying.

I ended up meeting this 36 year old woman on craigslist, who picked me up off the streets, let me live at her apartment, bought me alcohol and cigs, in return I let her svck my cach and eat my goo.

Well she started getting sh!tty because she wants to cuddle, kiss, sleep in the same bed ect. :nono: wasn't the agreement and I wasn't having all that, so she dropped me off where she found me.

So I was not doing to good coming off of a 6 day drinking binge, morning till night, or pretty much when I was awake I drank, eat, pass out and get my d!vk svcked.

I never lied to her though, she knows my situation.

So good news. Pretty much all my bridges were burnt finally about a month and a half ago.

I contacted a pastor of a church that me and my family used to attend. He is a good man so he listened to everything I had to say, I explained it all.

Then he had his step son who works for a treatment center that he want to (used to have problems also, 15 months clean now) and talked to me, I explained everything.

Really I was looking for a place to stay near my ride to my $17 per hour cash roofing job, but instead he offered me treatment.

He talked to the board of elders and they approved to pay for a plane ticket to florida, and $8,000 for the first three months of treatment. If I am successful and I will be, they will pay for the next three.

Its very, very, very hard to get into a decent treatment place if you are poor in this country, even if you have insurance, even good insurance.

So any ways, Ill be gone for a while.

Want to know something fvcked up? This lady I was staying with once said to me, in her manipulation to fullfill some delusional fantasy "I work at a hospital, I can get you morphine"

I was like wow. What a sick person.

I used to be physically dependent on opiates also (pills not dope, no needles). I know how good that sh!t feels.

But fvck that. Im never going to have a good life, or get the kind of pvssy I want if I take that quick route to get high.

Leaving soon.

I'm 26 years old for christs sake. I'm very tired of living this way. Sh!t im going to be 30 in 4 years. I need to do something with my life that will benefit me long term.

So see you in about three months.

Point taken. My point is, alcoholics are in the vast minority, and I'm a lot lower than what the benchmark used to be.

He is not a moderator. I can say what ever I like. Let me guess you are a liberal? It would make sense, communists love censorship.

How dare you not tolerate my intolerance. :nono:

Here is little lesson for you, not sure if you are just 20 years or less, or a woman or whatever you are, but the world is a cold and cruel place. Its not some faggot, every one hold hands, flower child world. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to survive.

Sometimes if you are not doing the taking, some ones going to take from you.

Which would you prefer, to take advantage of others, or get taken advantage of?

Sure we look out for each other here, try to help others, but ultimately its every man for himself.

Sounds like you bought in to some feminized, Marxist, liberal nonsense.

At some point you will get tired of being taken, or get taken so bad that you will change your opinion. When you learn your lesson and grow up, pm me.

I have to admit. I am tempted.

I've been off the drink for eighteen months now. Maybe it's time to give it another chance. Maybe I've learnt my lesson.
