how well do you dress when you go to a club?

Questions:
Do you gloom your hair especially well? What hair styler (brand and type) would you recommend if you want to make your hair steady and shinny?

Do you tuck your shirt in? That's my normal style, but I don't know if I'm looking too uptight in a place where most guys have their shirts out.

If wearing khakik pants, what color of leather shoes would you recommend?

If wearing blue jeans, what types of shoes would you recommend? I don't wear sneakers myself. (So, same question as above, but keep in mind this is now a blue jeans).

Do you know of website or sosuave posts that address color coordination and attire and appearance in general?

How do you dress?

Normally I dress in 2 ways:

a) a shirt, tucked in; khaki pants, leather shoes. Seems a bit "formal" to me, though I've got some compliments from girls and got hit on by girls in a club...

b) a polo shirt, tucked in; blue jeans, leather shoes. My Normal style..

Any comments?

My style seems to be somewhat different than yours but I normally do the following:

-open collar shirt(untucked)
-rugged jeans
-bowling shoes

Do what works for you.

I'm not a huge clubber either, but when I do go, I go dressed up and I am usually much more dressy than others there who generally wear jeans and steve maddens.

I go in slacks and a old pair of kenneth coles (my beaters now) and either a fitted t-shirt or a botton up shirt with the top botton or two undone. But I am not one of the guys walking around with sunglasses on in the dark a$$ club!

Try to go dressed nice in your own style. However it is that makes you feel comfortable. Your there to have fun, not look good.

How you dress is really the least thing u gotta worry about when you go to a club. 1. face, 2. body shape/height, 3. dance moves...the rest is irrevelant, as long as you ain't dressing straight ghetto.

Uh... don't worry about dressing nice if you aren't there for the social scene. if you're there to dance, don't worry about it. If you're there to socialize.. then dress polyester type clothes, make sure you smell fresh, etc.

Get a nice suntan. A suntan does more than any combination of clothes, and with the right clothes can be a killer combination.

I would say dress become less important w hen you have physical attributes to compensate but I would always "dress to impress to spark the B****'s interest," as Notorious B.I.G. would say.

I usually would go in a nice short sleeve button down shirt with collars. It is usually of good material. I would also sport some nice slacks.

I don't play when it come to shoes. They are usually Kenneth Coles or something on that level and shined so well that the women can use it to apply their make up.
I own a shoe shine kit and some of that quick shine spray also.

I would also wear nice accessories such as a Kenneth Cole watch, a nice gold ring, and a gold bracelet. I avoid over doing the jewelry.

I really believe that all of this gets my foot in the door. I would say every 5-6 women I approach would make some comment about my style of dress that shows me she is digging it or I would get the very noticeable but pleasant head to toe check out.

BTW, I usually shop at department stores so that I would have good quality clothes that not other people in the club will have.. A lot of men shop at Old Navy , Gap, or neighborhood stores where every one else goes. Since I don't want to look like I am at a twins convention, I avoid those.

I'm with Frosty. I think shoes are key and they must alway have a killer shine. I own a few pairs of Kenneth Coles and they are always buffed to the max.

To get an idea of what to wear, i'd say you should check out the mags like GQ and Maxim. Now, you don't have to go out and drop $500 on shoes or $150 on a shirt or something ridiculous like that. But it'll give you an idea of different "looks" then like Frosty said, you can hit the specialty store and department stores and try to find something similar.

When I hit the clubs, my goal is to stand out. Be a little different and not look like all the other Old Navy/GAP/A&F clones.

Frosty:

Whats up man.

You said you put on good shoes when you go to the club. I gotta go the other way on that one. I don't want to risk the health of my good shoes at the club, so I wear an old pair of (ugly beat-up but presentable) kenneth coles (black), or a pair of stacy adams (brown) to the club because I know they can take a beating. If you go out, your shoes are gonna get beer spilled on them and they are gonna be stepped on, just a heads up.

Also you said most guys at the clubs you go to dress in Old Navy and Gap? I guess it depends on your area and what club you hit, but I usually see people dressed pretty nice in my area, just not up to par with the club dresscode. I'll wear slacks while the majority will wear blasted jeans, thats the main difference I see in my area at least.

But like a few others have said, how you dress is not all that important, as long as your comfortable and you are having fun.

What's up, Mystery.

You said you put on good shoes when you go to the club. I gotta go the other way on that one. True. For this reason, I learned ways to get around the club while putting my shoes in less danger as possible. But the benefits definitely outweigh the risks so I willl still wear the nice shoes just because I know that women are crazy about shoes and they are the pillars of a nice outfit. I have taken some scruffs in the past but they have all been satisfactorily repaired by my shoe doctor.

Like every man should own a nice suit, every man should own a pair of kick-a** shoes.

I used Old Navy and Gap as examples of how guys seem to shop at the same stores or seem to not have shopped in years. Their outfits look very plain. For those reasons, I go to nice department stores since I know that cheap, not well financed, and clueless clubbers will avoid these stores and will less likely have on threads that are similar to mine.
I definitely believe that dress is not as important as some other attributes but
it sure in the hell helps to get you the time of day,it makes you feel good and make you look classy.

I guess it depends what sort of club you're going to...I'm from Miami, so I'm a bit biased. But so far, the advice was right on spot. If you keep within sane boundaries (i.e. don't wear a tux), you can never be overdressed. Jeans aren't for clubs...I can't think of many here that would even let you in if you showed up in jeans, no matter how nice they were. Go out and buy yourself a pair of FLAT FRONT charcoal pants. Armani Collezioni makes a great pair, as does Dior Homme...if you're not looking to drop a car payment on a pair of pants, go to Structure (now Express For Men)...they have them for $50 a pair. Kenneth Cole is seasonal...in other words, they're pretty quick to pick up the latest trends, but their shoes are only made to be worn a season or two. Because of this, they use crappy material and workmanship for the money you pay. The shoes are glued together (the kiss of death when it comes to shoes), and then stitched to make it look like they're sewn on (all good shoes are sewn). I own a few pair of Kenneth Coles myself, but realize that they're gonna last this season, maybe next, and that's it. You'd be better off spending your $150 on Prada, Cole Hann,Donald J. Pliner, Hugo Boss, etc....you'd be surprised what you can find on sale or @ a site like www.bluefly.com...you're MUCH better off spending an extra $50 and getting a pair of fashionable, quality shoes.

Mr Latte,

Believe it or not, you'd be waaay overdressed in most clubs in California if you showed up in black pants. It's so weird, but it's true. I'm with you in that it really weirded me out after coming from Atlanta where you'd be extremely lucky to slip in wearing a pair of khakis and where just about everyone was wearing black pants. Here in Cali, everyone wears jeans. Well, the ones who aren't wearing shorts, anyway. Yeah, seriously :)

When I was in Philly just recently, you saw a lot of guys wearing jeans, too, though I wouldn't have felt overdressed in a pair of blackpants. It's kind of odd that the ATL would be more formal than a major east coast city, but heh, that's the way it is.

Depends on the club/crowd

If you go to a teeny bopper club....or a club that's ghetto....you'll want to dress more casually. If you go to an older classier club you'll have to dress up more or else you'd look like a lowlife. It works both ways. If seen guys go into a casual freaky-deeky club all dressed up and just look out of place.
I usually go to a classy dress-to-impress club and I wear dress pants....a collared silk shirt unbottoned at the top (one or two buttons). Dress to fit in at the club you're goin'.

I've had the best reactions at teen clubs when wearing sleeveless or wife beater type shirts with TH or other brand name jeans and new sneakers that stand out. At 18+ clubs I'll still tend to go sleeveless because I don't see anyone in slacks or black pants. Guess it's where your from, but around here I've yet to feel out of place in this type of setup.
