Master Don Juan
I'm wonder what everyone's thoughts are with this. I want advice to help make a decision.
Soon, I'm moving away to another town. I'm a college student, and I'm going to need to get an apartment. The question I have is whether or not I should try to find a complex that has a lot of college students, or not.
What I consider important is that I am able to live alone, so it'll have to be a one or two bedroom apartment. Anything larger and I might as well get a small house. Also, parking in addition to my own is important, since I'm hoping to have the ability to easily have people over. Street parking is fine for that. But, I know that I can only judge this by actually looking at the apartment, so while I welcome any comments about this I don't expect any of you to be much help.
What I do hope others can tell me, is their experiences in living in apartment complexes with a lot of students. Will this result in increased noise? Are there going to be loud parties during the week, on days other than Friday or Saturday night? If so, is it highly disturbing? How about social opportunities? Tenant discrimination?
Partying:
I'm anything but anti-party. In fact, I'm all about partying and having a good time. I know for a fact that even if I'm at home on a Friday or Saturday night, I'm not going to complain about a party down the hall. Chances are, I won't even be home. I'll be out myself or maybe even at the party. But I also show some restraint. I'm not sure if blaring music at 2AM on a Thursday morning (Wednesday night) is something I'd like. At that time of day, I will be home and I will be trying to sleep. Generally, I don't stay out past 10-10:30 on a week night, if I go out.
Currently I live with my parents, though like I said I'll be moving out soon. Once, I did live in an apartment by myself. It was a small four unit building with four one bedroom apartments. I remember that I was the only undergraduate college student, and the others seemed like a bunch of recluses, with one guy being, in fact a recluse making his living by buying and reselling on Ebay. He wasn't very social at all whenever I talked to him. I might be too, in the sense that I cannot stand the idea of sharing an apartment. But, I do enjoy social interactions and going out. I wonder if it'll be different if I lived in a larger apartment complex. One guy I met, who did share an apartment, said that when they held parties they invited everyone who lived in his complex, as well of course people they know.
However, I once heard of someone who claimed that people in their complex partied so hard in the apartment above them that the ceiling light in their living room got loose and fell off. But, that sounds ridiculous. If it's even possible, it sounds like a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of thing.
Social:
I would think that a larger number of people would mean a larger number of opportunities. True? False?
Tenant Discrimination:
I've heard about this. How bad is it if it's mostly students? Should I just try to avoid such complexes?
