Im planning on moving there as soon as I can raise the funds, and would like any info with, housing costs, weather, places to go, women, etc. Im mostly interested in the music scene, especially the punk/blues/country/rock scene, which is thriving there, from what I here. Any info would be appreciated.

You'll get a fair amount of house for the money, if you're buying.
Texas is a *very* conservative state, but Austin is a bit more "progressive."
It's artsier, funkier than the rest.
A friend of mine is considering moving there... he made an exploratory trip, and liked the place a lot.

Everyone I know that has been to Austin likes it. I guess it's become a sort of liberal refurge for people who can't afford the sky high cost of living in the coastal cities.

Once you leave the city limits though, you're deep in Bush country...if that bothers you.

Due to the fact that I live 4 hours away I cant stand it!

I feel sorry that it's MY state capital.

I got there couple times a year cause of family reasons and every time it's so abismal that I never want to return.

1. It's damn crowded (I can understand if you already live in a city that's crowded but when you come from a small town and you live out in the middle of nowhere you kinda miss the wide open quiet space as opposed to noise 24/7)

2. Way to many bums

3. Way to many people asking for money at the pump

4.Crime rate going up higher as days go by

5.Over crowded

I know I'm kinda putting a downer type vibe to it but I just cant stand the place, hell even San Antonio is better cause of the Board Walk which is awesome to see in Christmas time. I say San is a better place to be once you get use to the climate but I think Austin is a blight on Texas.

Men frequently err by talking too much. They often monopolize conversations, droning on and on about topics that bore women to tears. They think they're impressing the women when, in reality, they're depressing the women.

Bumpin this thread, cuz I haven't heard from an actual Austin resident.

To Jono24, Im from a small town, but have lived in various big cities, so I can handle everything you stated. i appreciate the input, but I am looking for opportunity, without moving to LA or NY.

Im really more interested in the music/single/nightlife scene, which from what I've heard and read, Austin is among the top in the USA for all of which, as well as housing costs, growth, and employment. My mind is made up, I'd just like to know some pointers about the city.

I just got one then.

Dont let your wife or girlfriend go out at night alone and pump gas, too many stories .

Good luck and maybe we can meet up sometime.
