Im a freash in college, picked bio as a major.

Anybody else in her with the same major.

Hows it treating you.

Any Advice?

Or even better, do we have anyone who wants to become a dentist/doc but majored in another field besides science?

im a bio major, anthropology minor (was originally chemistry minor, but once I hit Organic chem, I abandoned ship). Got one year left. I love the zoology-oriented courses, don't care for the molecular/genetic courses. Currently plan on working for a state/federal-level wildlife department, when i graduate with a bachelors. Not interested in grad school. Officer commission in the Army was my original career desire after ditching the med school notion, but I got medically disqualified for an eye surgery I had years back.

If you're really driven and can make yourself swallow alot of sh!t you don't like and seriously limit your free time by studying for it, you can get into med/dental school. I found that I couldn't do that. Take physics and chemistry courses IMMEDIATELY, ASAP, so that you can get the feel for the sort of stuff you need to master to do well on the MCAT/DAT. Do NOT put your introductions to those subjects off; find out right away whether you can hack it or not. The intro chem courses were easy, but once I got to organic chem I took a W mid-semester and never looked back. Same went for physics.

anyone could do it if they forced themselves. its just that alot of ppl find out they actually dont want to force themselves.

What do you want to know? I have have TA'd and lectured various biology classes.

General Biology is the weed out class. Avg grade is a C. It requires a large memorization and organization of facts.

To go to medical school you can be any major, just that you need to take (and do well in!) the pre-requiste class for medical school like 2 semesters of general biology, chemistry, physics, and organic chemistry. MCAT scores are often the limiter for most to get into medical school.

If you screw up your undergraduate, many people will do a masters in biomedical sciences. If you get a good gpa of 3.5+ in the masters and decent MCAT scores, you should be able to get into a state medical school. It just adds another 2 years of school and more debt. So do it right the first time around.

It gets easier when you take specific classes like ecology, physiology, microbiology etc. Not that material is easier, just that you focus on just one field.
