It's called making conversation.

You should try it. You may enjoy it.

But I wasn't sure why it was being asked, it threw me off

Girls wants you to be passionate about what you do. This question is a test. She's really asking "are you a loser stuck in a job you hate?".

My answer was "I never apply to any job that I know I am not going to like"

Women don't care if you like your job. They only care what it pays and what the hours and benefits are lol.

Of course, if you do love what you do, then that's attractive. But it's not HER priority.

Probably just making conversation.

I think they are asking in around about way if you're secure in your job and employment, ie, are you $$ secure.

It's like if a woman asked you if you like dating. They're asking to prod to see if you're a "winner" or a "loser" in the game.

I ask that question a lot. It helps ferret out the whining complainers they I so disdain. Also their ability to answer it tells me a lot about them.

I get asked this all the time. And I always give the same answer. I am very grateful for my job.

I ask that question as well.

I find the answer a lot more relevant than what they actually do for work.

Someone who doesn't enjoy their job (or have problems in work) can bring those issues "home" and can affect any potential relationship

Also, show stability, if you are happy where you work then you probably aren't looking to move on and that you don't compromise - taking a job you hate just to get by

I don't understand why such a question would throw you off. It's pretty innocuous.

I'd say most people have aspects about their jobs they like and some they don't. It isn't always an absolute either way.

I like some things about my job and other things I hate. I'm in it for the money, when I'm in a position where I don't need as much I'll probably do something else. Getting paid really good money while doing something you love is by far not the norm, it's why people call it a "dream job."

The more money you make, typically, the more stress you encounter. High-paying jobs call for more specialized skills and there's usually a trade-off with comfort and level of responsibility.
