Just as the title says.

I recently changed employers and my new position has more leadership responsibilities than my last one and I'm looking for people to bounce ideas off of. I've been studying leadership for a while so I think I have a pretty good base but this is my first real official position. There will be a maximum of 5 or 6 guys under me at any one time so its not an entire army but I still don't feel comfortable winging it, ya know.

Also, anyone else in a similar situation?

i'm trying to find a job in management and with little experience it's hard. I've been getting some interviews but haven't landed anything yet.

Hello,

For the good leadership quality you can also take help any organization who provide the training on the leadership and management. Or you can also take help from the leadership books.

What kind of work are you going into? My experience has been in the finance industry, and for that, I'd recommend the forum WallStreetOasis.

For general leadership books, I recommend:
  • Winning, by Jack Welch -- Great book, very real world-oriented and practical. Written by one of the best CEO's of all time who turned General Electric, which was a struggling company competing in too many industries and not dominating at any, into the titan that it is now...unless this new guy Immelt screws it up; Immelt is a joke compared to Welch
  • Winning: The Answers, by Jack and Suzy Welch -- A sequel to Winning and a very good book as well, by Jack and his MILF of a wife
  • The Art of War by Sun Tzu -- Ancient Chinese philosophy text, great reading. Get a good translation
  • 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene -- long, but definitely worth reading

If you only have time for one of the books, make it Winning. Start with that one, then go down the list.

Really, there are a lot more great books, but that should get you started. If you're in a generalist management position as you said, I'd recommend regular reading of the Harvard Business Review, which you should be able to get in the business magazine section of pretty much all respectable bookstores. What kind of business are you in? I'd recommend reading at least one business periodical on a regular basis just to be in tune with what is going on around you...I like the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg.com. Bloomberg.com is free, but it is pretty finance-heavy, so if you're not in the finance industry, it might not be as relevant. The Wall Street Journal is a bit expensive, but it's a great publication, not just for business news; it's great for world news and political developments as well. They even have a pretty good arts & leisure section, and now a sports page.
