your height is affected by genetics and nutrition in early life. in later life it's only affected by things like land mines and bear traps.

YOU WILL NOT GET SHORTER.

Please explain to me how you could possibly prove that. IF ANYTHING...you get BIGGER like in all those commercials when we were kids about milk making us taller haha.

of course the people who do work out a lot will either deny getting a bit shorter, or not even notice it. I have a friend who works out a lot say that he feels like he got shorter. I think I'm on kickureface's side for now.
ah mate i think he was being sarcastic... are you being serious?

im not saying to get shorter .

Im saying that is it possible to stop growing . Not getting shorter but stop growing more .
My stepdad says when he was young he was doing weights, it stunted his growth, then he stopped it and he started growing quickly. But the latter doesn't work after a certain age as the growth plates fuse.

If you read Starting Strength, there is a whole section in that book by Lon Kilgore about how this is a myth and lifting weights will not affect your height.

^It looks like you and I are the only ones with some sort of evidence. All the other idiots just say "NO IT DOESN'T YOU GUYS ARE STUPID!" My friend who lifts weights a lot said he got shorter. Once you start lifting weights, you'll stay your normal height, I'm pretty sure. If you play sports you will get taller than if you were to just lift weights.
what? are you serious?
your "evidence" is that your friend said he got shorter when he lifted weights? wtf? get some scientific evidence mang

get your lazy bum off sosuave and do google searches, there are tons of articles on this

I've been lifting since the age of 14. Several doctors told me I would grow to be 6'4" or taller and I'm only 5'11"...but I'm satisfied with my height.

if you do heavy squats and deads and standing presses with good form (note heavy and good form) very often you will get some degree of spinal compression, which is unavoidable just as sitting down and walking around compresses your spine. in that case, just do some hangs if you're that paranoid.
if you are doing moderate weight or just a little over body weight, i'd say there's no problem.
if you have **** form, you're your bones and joints will have an uneven distribution of forces, and then that's where most people's problem lie, especially those who think you get shorter from lifting :p

you'll only stunt your growth if you masturbate with your eyes open before you are 18.

otherwise you are fine.

I've been lifting for 3 months, and I've grown to 5"9.5 from 5"8 in a month.
