Heed my warning: If you do not read this book without the bias of what you already "know", you won't understand it at all. Lifting for any reason other than self improvement is suicide. I know most people understand this, but if you lift for girls, you get a girl and lose motivation to lift once you have her. Then you get gross and saggy. Nobody likes that, do they? Ha!

Anyways, this is a GREAT guide.

Enjoy!

They're the same routine. It's just the traditional and effective 5x5 routine.

I'm going to shoot in the dark and say that the 5x5 routine is so effective because it uses natural movements, which are working more than a single muscle.

I can't say that I've ever found a contraption in nature that made me isolate only the bicep muscle and move my arms in a strange fashion.

Haha.

I"d like to know what Jack Lalanne's daily workout consisted of. Until he was 50, (1970) he had a $10,000 prize for the man who could follow him thru his daily routine. Nothing special, what he did every day. In 1970, gold was $135 an oz, and gas was 40c a gallon, so figure 100k in today's money. Pretty likely to have some serious challenges, but Jack never had to pay off. :)

It's sound as a foundation, but to me, routines like that are just asking for imbalances. I believed in the 'you don't need to work arms' stuff for way too long. Now I'm paying for it with lagging arms, complete lack of lateral/rear delts and sore elbows.

As a foundation, SS is fine but I think you really need to be adding in some extra work. For this reason, and the fact progression is ensured, I prefer 5/3/1 - GREAT, GREAT routine.
