Hey Allen,

Just like we have a person's location and number of posts under their username when they post, I think it would be good to include the member's age. Posts often make a LOT more sense when you know the age of the person posting and I think that this will lead to better quality answers to questions, and a better understanding of the maturity of a poster. Countless times I have read a post having no understanding of the situation someone is in or the context in which they are asking a question because I don't know their age bracket.

Cheers,

Chris.

...and then he lies about his age...

The probability of this being a good idea died when we realized that we are humans and we lie.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

It is an extremely awful idea. It will create ageists and push people to discriminate users by their age. It happens in the Anything Else forum all of the time. People should not be discriminated by age but by the content of their character. In this case, the content of their messages.

Well if you actually went to the Discussion Forum every now and again you will realize that most topics aren't religious or racial flame wars, but are usually questions from people asking advice or explaining a situation they are in. Unlike the anything else forum, most people are trying to help each other rather than win an argument.

No it wont, it will make posts understandable, for the age bracket looking at it, what works for a 15 year old may not work for a 30 year old, and vice versa.
and that would be cleared up by looking at the persons age, instead of the person scratching there head thinking wtf? this advice would never work.
and the "ageist" argument is nonsense, and wouldnt even be a problem, Im assuming you mean that older members would lord there older age and wisdom over someone younger yes? pfft come on be real this place is for getting and receiving advice about women and improving yourself ,to maximise ones learning and stop CONFUSION, so that being said an age icon is absolutely a great idea

Read that over and over until it's grafted into your mind. The ageist argument is solid. I suppose a 12 year old giving advice to a 19 year old wouldn't look too well from either perspectives.

12 year old: "and this one time... at band camp..."
19 year old: "what the hell would you know about band camp!? you're just a little kid!"

Give me a break. This is one of the dumbest ideas I've heard in a long time.

An age icon would be a great idea! :D
I have looked sometimes at repliers age, okay there might be that "oh, I'm not taking advices from two year younger guy than me!" -attitude, but I still allways listen what someone has to say! There's always good to think ....things.. at different angle.

Really if someone is so stupid he wouldn't listen i.e. younger posters, it's his problem.

It's good idea, do it.

There's a reason why the DJ forums are labeled differently. We don't need this age icon. It's just an excuse for laziness. You have a private message feature. If you want to speak to someone who you are unsure of their age, talk to them. That's what a community is all about: talking.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

For the record, I'm neutral on this idea; if it happens, fine and if it doesn't, fine. It won't chap my ass either way. I understand why this is wanted. Some people would prefer, if they are 28 years old talking about dating a 28-year-old woman, they might want to know if the advice they are getting is coming from a 15-year-old high school sophomore.

However, on the other hand, I agree with Demon. People lie about their age (and their sex, and their career, and yearly income, what kind of car they drive, etc.) on the Internet. It's a given. And if a 15-year-old gives good advice... why not listen to him? I enter Anthony (Lorenzo/Kino) as Exhibit A. There are certain guys in high school (a very select few) whose advice I would take over some of the guys my own age or older. Older does not always mean smarter.

Then again, as Hot Ice said, if someone won't listen to someone else on the basis of age, that's their problem and they're the ones who will suffer.

I have only ever seen a situation like this ONCE in the anything else forum and that was when you found out Dirkpitt's age and refused to argue with him anymore. I would asume that most people are beyond that now.

Nonetheless, one would think that a similar situation of discrimination would arise with the number of posts under a person's name or the amount of time they've being registered, but realistically there is hardly any of the sort. It's been proven that people are more likely to judge a post by its content rather than their "status" in the forums. So whats the big deal? The only people who will judge because of someone's age are the one's hung up on their status on the discussion forums and out to inflate their ego.

Demon, I think this kind of descrimination is actually positive.

When I want to research something or check out questions so that I can apply it in the future, I DESCRIMINATE the responses the thread starter gets.

First off, I look at the topic. When it says, "Yo wuzzzzup. I met a girl last night and we locked braces." Then I know that thread isn't probably for my age. But I'll check it out if I don't have anything to do and or just kicks.

Back to responses, same idea. Good thing that we have HS Forum or we will be swarmed by mixed age groups. By the way the only place I think that all groups can mix is the Health Forum and Anything Else.

Demon, here's my analogy of your statement above:

"It's wartime, and the head honcho gathers up all his top brass and top NCOs. Then what is a situation without the dilemma...an E4 prick whines because even though his just a lower enlisted, he also got a baccaleureate in basket weaving. Therefore, he is educated. And this E4 wants his fellow E4 and below to join in the Pentagon Briefing on how to kick Saddam's ass."

The bottomline is every soldier's thought and idea must be heard but their thoughts may not be necessary apply for that selected mission.

Which brings me to my suggestion:
Over 27 (or 30) forum

Just like the HS Forum

What do you think the Don Juan Discussion forum is for? The DJ Discussion and High School forums are mutually exclusive.
