I'm 6'3. And I last weighed myself (3 days ago) at 160 lbs. I have no exercise equipment cuz I aint got the money. There are no gyms anywhere available to me, and i culdnt afford them anyways. I could probably get some dumbells or something though.

Is this situation hopeless? I want to build upper body muscles. Will pushups and dips and stuff do that alone?

yes my friend you are SOL. my advice is to save up $200 and buy yourself a home gym as pushup and dip and other crap do not build mass. mass is gain by maximum intensity, u cant get that without free weights. also dumbells alone is not good enough. u need power exercises that should be in your workouts such as the all important squats, bench press, mitlitary presses, barbell curls, skullcrushers, barbell rows, and front raises. notice all these involve a barbell which enables u to acheive maximum intesity.

Like flava said, you should save up some money and invest in some free weights. Until you get them just keep doing pushups, crunches, and whatever else you can do.

But you also are missing the most important thing for you right now. EATING. Get on a bulking diet immediately. No need for supplements right now, just eat food. Once you've bought your equiptment then you can start saving for some supplements. Here are some bulking tips.

Eat 19-20 times your bodyweight daily in calories

Carbs are ok. Just try to stay away from processed ones and get them from fiberous and whole wheat sources.

Fats are ok. Just don't eat saturated fats which are found in many fried and processed foods.

Eat 1-1.3 grams of protein per pound per day.

Hope this helps.

A substitute for dumbbells are water/sand filled plastic milk cartons. Those might do until you save up enough for some real weights.

How old are you anyway? You sound pretty big for someone who's not at least 16 and capable of getting a part time job.

DD,

Go to a park or somewhere and find a heavy a$$ rock, one that weighs around 150 pounds or so. Then pick it up and put it down until you get tired.

Just like the World Strongest Man stones they have to pick up.

You could also do bent over rows with the rock.

or

You can drive to the park and steal a group of rocks of various sizes and then bring them back to your basement and perform different exercises. This is by far the cheapest way to get a set of weights.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOO.

You do not need any extra equipment for fitness.
DUDE NO

All you need is MOTIVATION

NO MONEY IS NEEDED

First you need to start gaining your aerobic fitness (stamina)
Go running every other day, give sunday a rest.

Theres countless numbers of natural exercises you can do.

Press ups , sit up's, crunchies, sqwat thrusts,
Rest your feet on the sofa and do press ups with your stomach facing the ceiling.
Theres loads more.

You don't need weights or any other gym equipment, they are jsut used for motivation.
Using your own body weight is more natural and will give you a better all round shape.

For someone who weighs 160lbs at 6ft3 and presumably trying to gain weight the above advice is total bollox - no offence intended as your other points are valid.

Just eat and lift - Wheelin's advice about the rocks is spot on if you really can't get to a gym and you have no equipment of your own. Improvise. Use what you can. Please please please EAT! Big style! Anything and everything in sight - don't even worry too much about saturated fat at this stage - although I would keep the processed carbs under some sort of control. Red meat, milk, eggs, fish, potatoes, pasta, rice, ice cream, pancakes, nuts, fruit, veg, chicken, pork, peanut butter, oats etc etc. You get the idea?

LOL, so you remember to throw in the minor detail of you being 13. Just have fun, enjoy your exercise and stick with free movements - that is bodyweight stuff such as press ups, crunches, maybe a few pull ups etc etc.

Well if hes 13 and 6'3" he better have started puberty otherwise hes got some crazy pituitary problem.

Just take it easy man, you're still growing you'll put on weight and strength as you get older without even working out. You're taller and heavier then a lot of guys that are fully grown so you've got nothing to worry about.

VERY SIMPLE SOLUTION TO BOTH PROBLEMS:

GET A JOB AT A LUMBER YARD, STEEL MILL OR SOMEWHERE WHERE YOU HAVE TO LIFT AND WORK LIKE A B#ASTERD!

Then save up money to buy a weight set and switch jobs if you don't like it.
