What are some good alternative meats, and where can you get them?

I like buffalo, it has better flavor than beef, and its lower in fat. I get mine from Trader Joes (frozen section).

The guy on the MMA threat mentioned kangaroo, but I don't think thats possible up in the states.

alternative to what, and why? you can do everything you need w/ ground beef & chicken breasts that cost $2-3/lb. your ability to work with these 2 is limited only by your creativity with the spice rack: http://www.sosuave.net/forum/showthread.php?t=110107

most fish is fantastic, though you might read up on which species have potential contamination issues. salmon is my personal favorite, esp. Alaskan Sockeye (even more expensive than TJ's buffalo burgers).

dark meat chicken is a nice change of pace. the cheapest way to do this? learn to carve up a whole chicken yourself :D

farmed meat is cr@p. very fatty and full of bad stuff.

Go hunting for deer or something. It's easy to get a gun in the states. You won't have to use a bow like me. I don't hunt anymore tho, now that I live in the city.
