I have just recently begun using affirmations and I am just curious to know if others here have gotten any benefit from them. I did a search and found alot of threads about affirmations, but didn't find any personal experiences. So if you have tried affirmations, please let me know what kind of results you got.

Repeating positive statements to yourself frequently in order to bring about changes, ie. "I am confident with women."

Oh never used that. It probably works but imo the best way too boost confidence is by positive happenings.

I totally agree with you, but one of the problems is that many of us don't have any positive experiences to build from and are having a hard time motivating ourselves to acquire any. I prefer to think of affirmations as a complement to direct action, a tool that can assist us in suceeding in having positive experiences. I'm only on like my third day so it's hard to say how affirmations are benefitting me at this point. I know I have alot of negative programming that needs changing though.

Feast,

I have read some stuff on affirmations. What I have learned is that statements by themselves wont work. You have to trick your mind into believing they are TRUE.

If you dont have positive experiences, use your imagination to make them up (while in a relaxed state)

i.e. imagine walking into a club, and all ladies eyes are on you, while backing this imagery up with affirmations like "Yea! Im the MAN!"

supposedy, your mind cant tell the difference between real experiences and ones made up with your imagination (for example, when you dream, it feels like it real doesnt it? although the experience isnt real, your mind while in a relaxed state believes its real)

so affirmations CAN work if you couple it with your creative imagination.

I got this method on affirmations from the book The Mind Accelerator.

First lie down, or sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes, and start taking full deep breaths. With each OUT breath imagine a wave of relaxation starting from the top of your head and going on down to your feet. You can also repeat a simple mantra like "Re-Lax". With each in breath say "Re" and with each out breath say "Lax".

Do this for 2 to 3 minutes.

At this point you should be full relaxed, and your body might feel a little heavy, but DO NOT, fall asleep. The reason for doing this full body relaxation technique is to open up the subconscious mind, so it is more prone to beleiving the affirmations being said. It is self-hypnosis because you are putting yourself into a trance.

Affirmations done in this relaxed state can be 10 to 100 times more effective than normal waking state repeated affirmations.

After you finish repeating all your affirmations 10 to 20 times, then imagine yourself in first person in scenarios that assure that your affirmations are true. For example, if your affirmation is "I project myself as a confident, and daring man"; then imagine and picture yourself in first person projecting yourself as a confident and daring man, perhaps to a fine lady, or set yourself up in scenarios which you find yourself in everyday, like school for instance, or in the office at work. Use your imagination!

Do this for about 5 minutes.

There's nothing more to it. You are done! It takes usually about 2 months for affirmations to become a permanent part of your mindset.

Do this method of affirmations every morning or before you go to bed.

I thought of a strategy not too long ago. See.... sometimes affirmations can be contradictive. Let's say an affirmation you use is "I am confident", but you know that deep down you are contradicting yourself and that you are really not confident.

We all know that the way you project yourself is the way people perceive you, am I right or am I right? Obviously! SHEESH! :p

So, if you are doing an affirmation session in the morning, it is better to say "I will project myself as a confident and daring man". During that day you also have to make an effort to project yourself as an confident and daring man so people can perceive you that way.

Then before you go to bed you can reassure yourself and say "I projected myself as a confident and daring man". Then after that set of affirmations is done, you can say to yourself "I will continue to project myself as a confident and daring man".

Do this everyday until you see that projecting yourself in this way has made it become a part of your mindstate. Then just change the morning affirmation to "I will always project myself as a confident and daring man!" At nite you will say "I will always continue to project myself as a confident and daring male."

And finally, after a week, you can say "I always project myself as a confident and daring man". If you think it has already become part of your mindset you can just change the affirmation to "I am a confident and daring man!"

No chance for contradiction there, the only thing stopping you is fear! Am I right or am I right!?

**** FEAR!

After it has become part of your mindset, you don't really have to keep reassuring yourself by saying "I am a confident and daring man!" By then you probably have created lots of memories of you projecting yourself as a confident man ever since you started doing the affirmations, that the memories, and the memories of the feelings you had are the only reassurence you need. You have done it once, you can do it again!

That is all I have to say for now.

Baricua, what you posted was splendid no-contradiction brainwashing/hypnosis...it's no error mental programming...

After reading that method, the only way a person will not obtain good results is if they show lazyness or fear of success.

FeastofbBlaze, I have been using affirmations for 2 or 3 months now, and they do work.
I didn't repeat "I am confident", but "I am calm" (I attended a course and that's what we used there). I have rarely been excited since then.

Boricua_33015: EXCELLENT post!
I just wish to add one thing: In this course we learned that using future sentences ("I will...") doesn't work, because your body only knows the present time.
So maybe one should change these sentences.

"my d1ck is getting longer"
"my d1ck is getting wider"
"my d1ck is getting longer"
"my d1ck is getting wider"
"my d1ck is getting longer"
"my d1ck is getting wider"

Ooooh, it so works. I am 12 inches now.

Seriously though, I have a cool confidence affirmations tape. Same sh1t as bruchia said, only it hypnotizes you into sleep and the affirmations are played to you while you're sleeping.

If you have MSN I can send it to you.

Mods = this is hypnosis, so move it to either unusual techniques or anything else
