since adding squats and calf raises to my normally upper body weightlifting workouts about 3 weeks ago i am noticing my bicepts and traps seem to be shrinking? any ideas? i'm thinking about dropping the squats from my routine now. i had read a couple of places that by doing squats it helps the body get more into a muscle building mode all over. do i just need to give it more time or may my body be one that's shrinking on the upperbody to compensate for new lowerbody growth from the squats? i want the big ripped upperbody and don't want a big butt and big thighs anyhow. was looking good before adding the squats to routine.

The SQUAT is the king of all exercises...when preforming it, 70% your muscles are being used....so I doubt your shrinking... your biceps actually are ebing used if your doing a highbar squat, they being used as stabilizers..... as far as shrinking...are you eating enough??? trying to get ripped i noticed u said, if u cut calories you do shrink....

As its been said over and over again...squat, deadlift and bench should be the core of any weight training program...

There are only 3 things that I can think of:

1) Your massive legs are making your arms look smaller!
2) You cut out some of your arm work in order to do squats.
3) You haven't increased your diet enough. Once you get into the man lifts (i.e. squats, deadlifts, snatches etc.) your body will be super taxed. You need to eat like a man now that you are lifting like one.
