im not sure if its related to going to the gym or not. I always shower straight away after training.

This is a cut n paste from another thread. Follow my advice, but remember that you are always going to get some acne while you are young.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I've suffered from cystic acne (the worst kind, and it leaves scars) since I was 13 years old. I have been on every medication for acne known. I was even on Acutane twice (that **** is nasty).

Suffice to say, I'm 27 and still have issues, although it is less severe. That said, there is actually some new studies that does show diet can trigger breakouts.

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Western Diet Linked to Acne

December 2002
For many years diet has been suspected to contribute to acne. A recent international study comes to the conclusion that Western diets are at least partly to blame. The belief is that refined starches and sugars stimulate the production of insulin, causing an excess production of male hormones. They, in turn, cause the overproduction of sebum, the oily substance that clogs pores.
The study compared Western populations with people of primitive cultures which have no refined products in their diet. The difference in acne rates was striking: 79 to 95 percent of Westerners have teenage acne, while none of their Primitive culture counterparts suffered from the affliction. When switched to a Western diet, they experienced similar rates of acne as Westerners.

While notable in it's findings, the study is not considered by some medical experts to be scientific. But it is noteworthy, as other experts, such as Dr. Nicholas Perricone, also recommend foods that are low on the glycemic index, which correlates to the body's production of insulin.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been told in the past that diet does not effect acne. This is untrue for some people. You may actually have an allergic reaction to many foods that will cause breakouts. Trust me, I've been to many dermatologists, and they all say the same thing "Eat a healthy diet regardless".

There is hope. Within the last few months, I have completely eliminated certain high risk foods and activities from my life and infact I have seen a massive improvement in controlling my acne. These are easy to do and cost nothing.

1) Stop eating junkfood, simple starches, cola, coffee. These can trigger insulin spikes which can impede proper levels of skin oil. This step alone has improved my overall health as well as my complextion.

2) Drink tons of water. This goes hand in hand with a healthy diet and good complextion. A good supply of water is vital.

3) Avoid hot showers, baths, steam rooms, hot tubs. Do not wash more than twice a day if at all possible, but by all means wash after excerting yourself (excercise, heavy work). Do not scrub your skin too harshly, as this can trigger increased oil production. You can learn to enjoy cold showers, they are great for waking up =)

Remember, wash twice a day, three if you excercise (do not sit around in your sweat for long, you need to get clean asap).

4) Avoid prolonged sunbathing, as this can dry the skin and trigger oil production. Small doses of sunbathing are healthy for skin but don't sit out too long without sunscreen.

5) Stop touching your skin where you have acne. This will deposit bacteria and oil deeper into your skin. DO NOT PICK at pimples, although you should remove blackheads (use a warm compress and be sure to clean the area when you are done. Black heads don't go away unless you remove them).

6) Wear loose fitting and comfortable natural fibers. Also wear an undershirt (cotton) when ever possible. Avoid tight cloathing.

7) Excercise, Excercise, Excercise - Get into weightlifting or running, or some other activity. This helps keep your body fit, but more importantly, keeps stress levels down (a MAJOR cause of acne). Healthy body, healthy mind.

8) Practice stress relief. Meditation, relaxing music, yoga, taking walks, watching funny movies. TRUST ME, stress will wreak havoc on your mind and body and trigger your worst outbreaks of pimples.

9) Eat foods rich in omega 3, like fish. This stuff is magic for your complextion. Also take vitamins BUT DO NOT TAKE ONES WITH IODINE, excess iodine can trigger a reaction in the oil producing glands in some people. You will get plenty of Iodine from salt in the foods you eat.

10) Avoid benziol peroxide. This stuff drys your skin out too much. Its mainly for people with lite acne. Instead use oil free healthy soaps and moisterizers. Use a back scrubber so you can get your back clean properly. DO NOT OVERSCRUB!!! It will inflame your oil glands by overdrying your skin. That is why you need to use oil free moisterizers, so your skin does not need to produce so much oil.

Remember, this is what I do but i have the worst kind of acne, and I have to maintain balance in diet and health at all times to keep my skin under control. For people with less sever breakouts, these steps will help you clear your problem up.

This might not apply to you, but one of the replies says that most young people get acne or something like that, and it's so true. I spent lots of time during my teens worrying sick about acne, but it actually looked a lot worse to me than it did to other people. I even stopped engaging in activities that I loved because I was so worried about looking bad with acne. To those young dj's who worry sick about acne, see a dermatologist but understand that you have to keep on living as if you didn't have acne. Face the world no matter what. Don' stop playing your favorite sport. Don't stop going after the chicks. Don't stop enjoying life.

Vitamins don't cure acne. A healthy diet and active lifestyle keeps it under control. Teenage acne will evently fade away as you get older and your hormone levels go down.

That is unless you have severe acne, in which you should see a dermitologist.

Actually Vitamins do help cure acne.

B5 has helped a lot of people, although the extreme doses you take can be expensive and have side effects. A lot of people with oily skin have tried Zinc and copper(you must suppliment zinc with copper). Take optizinc or chelated zinc and never ever go past 100g a day as it's toxic. Most people take 25-50.

The whole principle of accutane is that it floods the body with vitamin A. The reason it works is that is basically damages your oil glands so they don't function properly. Of course idiots have tried to take the 50,000 or so IU's a day as a cheap alternative to it but don't realize that the reason Accutane has such harsh side effects is that vitamin A can easily poison you at high doses, accutane is just a safer way to take all that vitamin.

Vitimins do not cure acne, they are a part of a healthy diet and that is what can keep acne under control. Taking vitimins will do you no good if you don't excercise and eat right.

And I've been on accutane twice. Avoid that shyt like the plague, the side effects it does have started to surface in me years later. Its nasty stuff.

B5, just like Accutane, is potentially deadly. Try the acne.org regimen instead.
