hey guys I'm gonna order some acetyl l carnitine soon, I was wondering how fast it would help me to burn fat...

atm I am:

170lb - 14/15% BF

in 15 weeks I want to be 170lb with visible abs (so around 10% I guess)

I read reviews that said it helped women to move about 1% BF in a month but do you reckon this'll do the same for me?

if not what kind of loss am I looking at?

of course I'm gonna be training well and dieting okay (crap for the first 5 weeks 'cos I'm with my parents, who dictate what I eat but then good for 10 weeks 'cos I'm at uni)

cheers guys :)

I would not waste the money. To drop 5% bodyfat in 15 weeks and stay at the same weight (so you'd have to gain muscle as well) is not easy and requires hard work and clean eating, not some miracle supplement. If you do want something to help your fat loss efforts, buy some green tea (extract or bags) and fish oil.

hmm I understand dude - I was thinking I could do it because I'm new to training and I'm still getting newbie gains and all...

in 5 weeks I'm gonna be starting another creatine monohydrate cycle, I'm gonna get my hands on some green tea too, I was just thinking carnitine may give me an edge - burning 1% BF in a woman may mean 1.5% for me and that's half my battle :)

cheers for the advice though :)

I don't think it will be effective unless you are a vegitarian (meat has carnitine). Carnitine has alotta benifits http://www.sherdog.net/forums/showthread.php?t=494680&highlight=carnitine, however, I recall looking on google scholor that carnitine supplementation has poor uptake. Didn't save the paper, but look it up.

BTW, most of you fat loss should come from your diet and exercise. Once you get that down, then you should be spending time analyzing how supplements can be incoported.

alex, 1% bodyfat in a woman (or man) means nothing. she might have been 40% bodyfat in which case ANYTHING could help her burn fat.

if that's you in your profile then fat loss should not be your concern, you should worry about putting some muscle on your frame because past a certain point, you NEED muscle to get you down to lower bodyfat levels to avoid looking emaciated. it'd be so much easier if you had even an extra 10lbs of active tissue, so concentrate on that do the necessaries to keep lean and you'll be flying...

Don't waste your money on supplements. Eat clean, 5-6 times a day (you can go up to 8 if you're really psycho), LOTS of veggies, very few carbs except post-workout, make sure to get enough macronutrients, do some interval cardio (look up HIIT), and get lifting.

At 15% BF for 170lbs you're what we call "skinny fat." You don't have the muscle base to really go through a cutting phase, and even if you manage to stick through it, you'll just look like a faggy twig once you're done, because there's no way to stay at that weight and lose 5%BF naturally (even with supps).

Where did you get the 15% figure, anyway? Unless you have bodyfat calipers and someone who's good with using them, chances are your figure is way off. (Unless you have tons of money to waste by going to use the super-sophisticated methods used in professional studies and the like)

I posted a video on the 'net and they said I was around 14%, I'm saying 15% 'cos I'd rather lose an extra 1% than risk being fat for summer
I reckon it's a feasible goal though, I've managed to gain 15lb while getting leaner over the last 2 months (when I started lifting properly) and that's with bad diet

I was doing this but I really need the cardio so I can run (I'm in the territorial army so I need to be physically fit for that) :(

you wanna lose fat, you wanna kickbox, you wanna gain muscle, you wanna run for the army.. these are counterproductive goals. Prioritize and stick to it.

well all of those except building muscle go together...
I think my priority is to lose fat, gaining muscle is secondary but they seem to be working together - after this 15 weeks my aim is just to gain 10lb of lean muscle over the next year or so

1% will make you go from "lean" to "fat"?

1% is 1.7lbs of fat. Spread out over your entire body. Take 1.7lbs of butter, cover your whole body with it, and that's how much bigger you'll be if you don't lose that 1%.

Don't focus on the small things like that.

But yeah, I think Warboss Alex has a good point: find out what your top priority is, and work on that.

cheers dude, seems I'm just gonna concentrate on the fat loss and then do a super clean bulk for a while :)
